yes its illegal in brighton and hove, just wondered if you put posters on boards and tie them round railings by traffic lights etc, is that illegal?

I have been launching a 1 man crusade recently in my area, so can give you the definitive answer.

Yes it is illegal to fly post by attaching signs to lampposts using plastic clips.

BUT once the signs are in place it is also illegal for members of the public to remove them as this is seen as theft. Indeed it is also illegal for local councils to remove them unless they apply for an appropriate bye-law.

But this doesn't stop me. :thumbsup:

No, the act of putting them up is still criminal, even if you are identified some time later.

Not strictly true - you can put them up if you have the permission of the local authority. If you look closely at the legal ones, they will have a barcode or reference on them so the highways inspectors can tell whether they have been given permission to put them up or not.

the highways agency can get them removed if on traffic signs, or if on lamposts by getting the electrical company to remove them on the grounds of safety and then find the person/organisation/company who put them up and charge them for the removal. so they told me some years ago.
