The train is much better. 5 glorious hours fom London, with nothing else to do but get completely wallied.

Return train is booked to leave at 18:49 - is htis enough time to get back from the ground ?

Should be, easily, but may depend how many pubs you visit en route! The Howard Arms and Kings Head in the town centre (and therefore between the ground and station) are well spoken of.

I flew to Sunderland two seasons ago, I was back in my local at 8.30pm

I drove from Sunderland and was in Burgess Hill for 10pm

Most will be OK but I would avoid cerise, magenta or plum, just to be on the safe side.
