Fixing washing machine hose

Our hose has come detached from the outflow pipe (it was attached just under the sink). I've tried all sorts of ways of fixing the hose back on the pipe: brute force, screwing clockwise and a/c, fixing it with plumber's grease but it just won't go over the fitting. It's the right fitting as it's been there for four years but it won't go on.

I thought I'd try the collective wisdom of NSC. Anyone got any special tips or techniques I can try? I thought it would be a simple task but I've been proved hopelessly wrong.

Lots of choices here. I guess the rubber bit has been cut off, try sticking it in really hot water for a bit, then try to push it on.
Failing that I guess the serrated bit on the U bend has been cut to size? As it's more of a job to change the washing machine hose, change the U bend bit with a new tapered fitting.
You may have to hold it in place with a Jubilee clip.
Hope this makes sense.

I'll try the hot water trick and see if that works.

I'm sure I will have to hold it in place with Jubilee clip, the trouble is I can't get enough of the hose over the serrated bit to have anything to hold on to.
