I find it interesting the lack of female authors in all the lists. I can't think of any female Authors that I read apart from Patricia Cornwall. It bothers me that I may have been missing something, probably not.

I read a Cornwall book once and was very disappointed considering the number of best sellers she's had, maybe I got unlucky. However there are a few female writers I like such as karin slaughter and tess gerritsen

Daphne du Maurier is sublime & just missed out on my top 5. Sara Paretsky is well worth a read as are Laura Lippman and Sue Grafton.

Realise that some of these haven't written a huge amount but wish they would. Passing mention for the likes if Dan Brown, Peter James, Lee Child - in the same way that one shouldn't be embarrassed about reading hello magazine even though the Guardian is far more satisfying....
