I had an HTC Wildfire - not sure on the standalone price, but it was free on a £15 tariff two years ago. This ran MapMyRun just fine, which I always use for tracking my running via GPS.

Why not look for free online solutions?

no, not just for the app, but have had same 9.99 basic phone for a while now and would like something that at least allows me to use the apps
