A female motivator... hmm.. hard to name many candidates.

Anita Roddick, if she's still knocking around in 20 years time or so.

Yes. It probably won't happen soon, not in the next 5 or 10, but I think 20 is reasonable.

We'll have the first female Premiership referee before manager though. (Wendy Toms only ran the line in the Prem before any smart-arse tries to drop her name in)

I cannot see any professional football team having a woman manager.

Since when did men ever listen to what a woman had to say?

If a woman did ever get a managers job it would only work if she was a big ugly dyke. Otherwise the players wives would get jealous :shootself

Wasn't there a physio who got the sack recently for being attractive (although that wasn't the reason actually given)

Woman soccer fitness trainer sacked over midnight text to player
Date: 20 August 2003

fitness instructor was sacked from a First Division football club after she sent a text message to a married player at midnight to help to "boost his confidence".

Laura Church sent a message to Chris Hope, the 30-year-old centre half at Gillingham FC, telling him how brilliantly he had played that day.

But his wife, Lisa, saw the message and complained to the chairman. A few days later Miss Church was sacked from her £2,000-a-month job for "unprofessional conduct".

Miss Church, who insists that the text message was part of her brief to motivate players, claimed that she was told she had to go because her presence was making all the wives jealous. She said: "When I got called into the chairman's office I thought it was for a pat on the back for the good job I was doing but instead I got the sack.

"He said that it was because I'm a beautiful woman I was making the players' wives jealous. He reckoned that if the players were getting ear ache off their wives, it would affect their performances on the pitch."

Miss Church, who worked at the club for just five weeks, said she had felt hostility from wives but that it was the text message that brought matters to a head.

"We'd beaten Canvey Island 7-0 in a pre-season friendly," she said. "When I got home at midnight I texted him, saying "Brilliant game, well done. You're a brilliant player'. I didn't think anything of it - boosting a players' confidence is all part of my job - but things went berserk.

"Chris's wife, Lisa, rang me the next morning and was furious. She said: 'How dare you text my husband. He's got a big enough ego as it is'."

Miss Church claims that she has suffered sex discrimination because the message would not have resulted in dismissal if it had been sent by a man. She said: "I feel like I am being victimised for having looked after my body. If these women had taken the trouble to meet me, they would have realised I had no interest in their husbands.

"I can only think they are insecure because of the way I look. In 22 years as a professional trainer, I've never taken a romantic interest in any of my clients. My divorce is coming through in a week and the last thing I want to do is get involved with another man."

Miss Church, a member of the British Judo team for 10 years, was taken on by the club after she worked as a personal trainer to some of the players, including Mr Hope. "I was headhunted by the club and gave up all my personal clients to work there", she said.

"All the players were very happy with what I had achieved. They couldn't believe it either - some came up to me and said their wives had absolutely no problem with me. It seems incredible that I'm now out of job because of these insecure women. If you saw this as a plot on Footballers' Wives you would not believe it."

Paul Scally, the club's chairman, was unavailable for comment yesterday. Earlier he had said: "A text message at 12.10am in the morning did cause the player's wife upset."

A club spokesman said: "She was taken on because she was a fitness instructor for one of the players who incidentally never played last year because he was unfit.

"It is just a storm in a teacup. I think she is making herself look a little ridiculous."

Mrs Hope, speaking outside the family home in Sittingbourne, Kent, also dismissed the row as "pathetic".

Yes at Gillingham, she use to send the players text messages saying how good they were looking (in the fitness way) but the players wifes got the wrong end of the stick.

It's not so much the listening as trying to understand what the hell she is going on about ;)
