First Albion match for the nipper.

I took my daughter to her first game at the age of 5. Reasoning being that she wouldn't have a clue if she was any younger. Waited until the boy was 5 also on the same basis.

They both go occasionally now and seem to enjoy it. They know Gary Hart, though my son can't quite work out where BZ is

Simster - it's a tricky one. My daughter who's 7 now, begged me to take her to " where Daddy goes on saturdays " three years ago.

Her first game was when we were still in 3 rd division against the mighty Scunnie. It was raining and at Withdean in the south stand - and that can be not the best fun even for a grown man let alone a four year old child.

I was prepared: I brought a huge bag full of goodies for her... every treat known.. sweets, drinks, crisps etc - I had it all... I think there was even the odd " Barbie" comic but to no avail. After one minute, with the Albion already on the backfoot in the match, rain pouring down, my daughter concluded; " I hate this" and burst into tears. Not the start I had previously imagined.
I had to bail out at half time.

So, don't be in a hurry... don't take the kids until they're really ready. Plenty of time for them to be disappointed!

Grrrrr........this is why we need Falmer!

My daughter is 15 months and has already attended about nine London Irish games but no Albion ones. The difference is having the modern stadium, decent cover, areas where you can go if she gets upset and also ability to move about freely - you are pretty packed in at the South Stand at Withdean and a baby girl on my lap I'm sure wouldn't impress those sitting next to me! At the Madjet, 10-12k crowd in a 24k stadium, lots of space to spread out with a baby, at Withdean, 6K shoehorned in, no chance.

Does anyone take babies to Withdean, I haven't seen any, the logistics must be a bit scary but I have seen plenty at the Madjet.

Cardiff could be the window of opportunity though, better half has not ruled out attending her first Albion game there, now for the tricky bit........

My daughter has been fine in a stadium up to now. I first noticed her watching the ball in play about 3 games ago when she was about 12 months.

Glorious scenes as the ref awards a drop ball and Albion choose to contest it because nimble Kerry Mayo would easily have caught up with fat, slow Scott Murray despite giving him a 10 yard head start.

Seeing as young Sam actually looks like Kerry Mayo, the Albion might get away with it. I think he's got more pace than Kerry anyway

Yes, take mine regularly. He's 15 months now, 1st game at Leicester a year ago.

Also taken a 1 year old to Ninian Park a few years ago !
No problems, even had the taffies help the pram onto the train afterwards.

Fraser's first game was at age 6 weeks v Hull City at Withdean in 2001. He was completely oblivious to the whole thing. His next game was the game against Southampton at The Dell later the same year and he got so upset with all the noise that Justine had to take him out at half time. He's 3 now and hasn't been since because, selfishly, I want to watch the game rather than worry about whether he will kick off, get bored, wee, shit or want chocolate. His time will come however.

Our daughter (12) loves football but got so wet at the Boston LDV game that she has been traumatised by the whole experience and hasn't been since!

I'm all for taking them but with 4 children in all, it's nice to go on my own and get a bit of (relative) peace and tranquility watching the football.
