To me, the only reason an innocent British man is sitting in some building in Iraq awaiting the most gruesome of executions is because not only are we allies of the USA, but we choose to go along with ANYTHING they say, regardless of who the President is.

I understand that Sky are showing a programme tongiht presented by Ross Kemp about America's infatuation with guns - 293 million people, 200 million guns. That tells you all you need to know about America and their outlook on life.

Yes Yes and again Yes. I am just saying what a fair degree of the public are saying/thinking.

Meade's Ball - the police are not so hasty in arresting the men outside the Finsbury Mosque telling fellow followers it is a duty to kill American and Brits.

A classic white, Western view of the world.

Is it more important than the state sponsored genocide in the Sudan, the drowning in floods of more than 600 people in Haiti today as a result of deforestation, or many other conflicts that are taking place all over the planet as we speak?

Yes, it IS more important. A flood in Sudan will not wipe out hundreds of thousands of people, new TREES can be planted, but the Middle East is currently a tinderbox ready to go up, and this incident could drastically change the course of events.

Haven't you seen all the programmes on the TV about "what if" there is a terrorist attack, or read the government leaflet through your door about coping with an attack?

Incidents like this are raising the stakes...

This whole 'backlash' thing is ridiculous and an example of the kind of moronic thinking that has plunged the world into this crisis. So we can expect a backlash against these executions which are a backlash against the war against Iraq which was a backlash against 9/11 which was a backlash against US foreign policy in the Middle East blah blah blah blah blah

Do you also agree with what "a fair degree of the public are saying/thinking"?

I live just round the corner from the Finsbury Mosque. Not had any bother whatsoever.

What is your conspiracy theory about the police not arresting these Muslim propagandists of hate? There have been some arrests, as we know.

I bow to your judgement Meade as you live there. I think now that any of these people inciting hatred and terrorism in this country should be arrested and thrown out of the country immediately. Did these guys have a meeting on 11/9/04 which needed a massive police presence outside ?.

I do agree with El Pres that it is wholly regrettable we only get interested when a Brit is involved. I can honestly say I'd be as horrified by the situation if it was three Yanks, but that is not the way the media at large would see it.

It's also now become a very big one for Blair and Straw. The family, and God knows how they must be feeling, have quite understandably loaded the pressure on them by saying it's all down to them.

The meeting was run by Al Muhajiroun, a group with extremist views active in the UK. These people receive publicity way beyond their influence because idiots like Mike Dicken use them as an excuse to expound their racist opinions.

In fact the we should take the two groups and lock them up together. The other 99% of the UK could then get on with a serious debate without the cartoon opinions of Richard Litttlejohn and Abu Al Hamza

Also, there are huge contracts to be won. People will risk their lives if the pay-cheque is large enough.

Yup, and that. Making Iraq a no go area for foreigners would alos negate the point of us going there in the first place.

That's where I have some sympathy for Blair and Straw, in that they know they cannot bow to these terrorists and so thereby condemn this man to almost certain death.

However, Blair had the power to moderate Allied foreign policy in the Middle East and he chose to go along with Bush. This is payback time.

When will the politicians learn that the only solution is a UN-led solution?

And what exactly is Kofi Annan doing at this precise point in time??

There are many issues raised in this thread which i won't choose to comment on.

What i will state is that i'm not convinced the kidnappers will achieve anything with these videoed executions. Do they think that Blair or Bush will concede in any small way to their demands? If they concede even by a fraction they know that any Tom, Dick or Harry will see kidnapping with a threat of public execution as a way of exerting pressure.

My thoughts are with the man and his family as i fear a happy ending is not on the cards.

Why are they allowed to hold the meeting though. That is what I am most of the population are sick and tired of.

You don't realise how desensitised you are to death until you watch a man kill another man in cold blood.

Oh my god, I think I would find that scream absolutely horrific. I really don't think I could watch it.
