A fresh ripe fig with juicy red flesh, picked from a fig tree growing in a hot climate and eaten immediately, is the finest fruit known to mankind.

Sticky brown dried figs, bought from English supermarkets, are but a distant cousin of the real thing. I quite like them, but understand why some people don't.

This man doth speke well and true.

One of my mates has a tree in his garden, and it's prolofic with fruit - but he lets the bloody birds get most of them. He's got these white-peach trees as well, they are succulent with an almond-y taste when ripe - freakin' awesome!

I love fresh figs, dried figs and fig rolls. I also love dates. In fact I love all fruit. I would rather eat fruit than sweets.

If you limit yourself to 4 or 5 figs a day then the laxative effect doesn't take effect but if you eat a whole packet........
