FIFA World Rankings, top 10

Previous tournaments are taken into account on these things.

Well, recent ones are. As the years pass, their worth in the points system drops until they are worth nothing towards your FIFA rankings. If I remember rightly, it's only over the last ten years that they count - but don't quote me on that.

Czech Republic have never left the top ten after reaching the Euro 96 final, despite failing to qualify for the last 2 World Cups and Euro 2000. Reaching the semi-final of Euro 2004 means they'll be positioned in the top ten for the next decade irrespective of their performances in World Cup qualifiers.
Mexico have always been in the top 15 because they always qualify for the World Cup by beating teams from Barbados and the like. Plus they get to play in the Copa America AND the Gold Cup meaning they play in North American and South American Championships!

If you can be arsed to read how they calculate these then you would not have to worry about teams that play more than others or teams that play qualifying world cup games in a lower standard qualifying area.
There is of course a weighting that places Euro and South America a long way ahead of other areas.
Similarly only a certain number of the most recent games count.
Basically if you play and beat the Central African republic every week you are not going to progress much further than 120th.

They did qualify for Euro 2000, by winning all of their 10 qualifying matches  (admittedly in a generally piss-poor group). Lost 2 out of three matches when they got there though- to France and Holland.

Am i being pedantic??? :jester:
