Agree about Barnes, but I feel that Ulloa was good, old fashioned sensible 'business'.

Have to agree to disagree there mate. We had Ulloa and Barnes up front. Before that we had Murray and Barnes up front. Proper strikers. As a club, you don't give these people away lightly, cos it'll cost you three or four times as much to replace them on a like-for-like basis.

Wickham and Bamford would both be ahead of him, Pardew wants to play Bolasie through the middle and we're supposedly bringing in another striker yet. We only play with one and Glenn isn't able to play the full 90 at this stage of his career.

All relatively inexperienced and young. I would imagine as you say another striker will be bought. Going in to a prem season just with them would not be wise.

4 million for Murray 4 years after we let him go and spent 3 million plus on CMS. Cracking bit of business there BHA and apart from Ulloa we haven't had a striker since fit to lace Glen Murray's boots since.

I think Bournemouth have a recruitment team with MUCH more savvy than our recruitment team

Nobody can seriously say that GM is worth £4m other than Eddie Howe who is panicking for his first season in the Prem with Bournemouth.

Wish we were in their position and able to panic with millions

We will be soon but wont panic buy when it happens.[/QUOTEN

Didn't we panic buy last season? Or are you suggesting the most expensively assembled Brighton team ever was a well negotiated and priced squad???

Bournemouth have pissed all over us with their recruitment over the last couple of seasons but you feel we would do better in their position? No idea why you'd come to that conclusion.

£4m is f*ck all to a Premier League team. From a Championship perspective it might seem like a lot but the new TV deal has given every top flight club enormous financial clout. Even if Bournemouth finish bottom next season, they'll still make £100m from one season before parachute payments. Glenn got 7 PL goals from January onwards last season. He's worth every penny they pay for him.

Your recruitment has been pretty average for some time now. What makes you think it'd improve if you defied the odds and managed to get promoted?

Don't bother arguing with him ... it's a total waste of your time.

£4m for Glenn is not expensive. He's a decent Premier League striker with at least another couple of years left in him. I will be absolutely gutted if he leaves, but can understand why he doesn't want to be 3rd/4th choice.
He wants first team football which he won't get this season at Palace, unfortunately.
So he wouldn't get in your team, but you don't want him sold for £4m? So you just want £4m of club money wasted on someone who won't play for you?

Some clubs are smart enough to invest in proven quality. Unlike ourselves who just prefer to take a punt on unproven cheap signings with a view to being asset stripped by the likes of Norwich.

Buying Murray is a no-brainer. Same as not selling him was.

In a 25 man squad you need at least 4 strikers. Glenn would probably be 3rd or 4th choice next season, so he won't be getting regular first team football but would still be used throughout the season as cover. £4m is not a significant amount of money in the Premier League and it's the going rate for PL reserve players these days when you consider that we've got a squad worth upwards of £100m and clubs are trying to take our other reserves like Guedioura and Marriapa for similar fees.
