Nottingham Forest have let out-of-favour defender Alan Rogers leave the club by mutual consent.

The 29-year-old left back moved to Hull City on loan in January after a lack of first team football at The City Ground.

He impressed boss Peter Taylor at The KC Stadium and had been close to securing a permanent deal at the end of last season.

But the manager's departure to Crystal Palace in mid-June scuppered talk of a deal, and the player was forced to return to Nottingham.

The former England Under-21 international has therefore been allowed to leave the League One outfit after two-and-a-half years under contract there.

News of ex-Forest coach Frank Barlow's move the other way as caretaker manager of The Tigers, though, may reignite the speculation.

Someone just purchased Jamie Vincent. I always thought he was a fairly decent left back, but being an ex-Palace player......he might not have endeared himself to the crowd.

Great player Rogers. Do we really need him in league one? I think Lynch/Mayo/Rents and possibly Dodd will suffice.

Much better at centre-back, not good enough, never played professionally, not a left back ... in that order. I think a left-back is second only in the list of priorities to a centre-forward.

Amid the rancour of Gary Megson's departure from the City Ground he did give a couple of valedictory interviews which actually rang true.

Basically he reckoned the situation at Forest when he got there was absolutely dire, with a load of big-time charlies on monster wedge who didn't give a shit about the shirt.

I think he was talking about Rogers and his ilk. No, ta.
