Sir Alex Ferguson wants the FA to investigate the "terrible" way that a posse of Arsenal players harassed Ruud van Nistelrooy at Old Trafford.

Van Nistelrooy had angered the Arsenal contingent for his part in Patrick Vieira's red card with 10 minutes left.

When the Dutchman then missed a last-gasp penalty, he was surrounded by Arsenal players celebrating right in his face, with Martin Keown appearing to push him at one point.

When the match ended soon afterwards, van Nistelrooy was again converged upon by several angry opponents as tempers boiled over even further.

The FA will have to wait for the reports from the referee, Steve Bennett, and the fourth official, Neale Barry, but they are almost certain to launch an investigation.

Ferguson declared: "I really think that was terrible behaviour at the end. I think the FA will look into it.

"Great credit to Ruud for the way he came off the pitch but you don't want to see that kind of behaviour.

"I think it is beyond the pale. Everyone in the country will be disappointed to see that kind of behaviour. After all, these are the best two teams in the country."

erm was there something similar done by the Manc players to Andy D'urso over a penalty a few seasons back, good how fergie has such selective memory at times

He deserved it.

His reaction to Viera's attempted kick was ridiculous, Viera was rightly sent off but RVN made a complete arse out of himself.

I agree. RVN is a cheat and he knew it, that's why he didn't defend himself and ran away like a schoolgirl.

Interesting. RVN was booked for his reaction to the kick, which did deserve the second yellow that Vieira got.

And IMHO, Ruud reactly brilliantly to the abuse at the end - Arsenal were simply after a kick or punch from him - he didn't get himself in trouble.

RVN is a coward and cheats in almost every match. He gets away with it all the time, and that is one of the worst things about English football (in Europe its a different story). Fare play to Arsenal for standing up to him, it is about time somebody did. Maybe he will have second thoughts next time he decides to take a tumble in the box.

In a pile of football shirts
However you feel about Manure, Arsenal or any of the Premiershite teams (but it won’t be shite when we get there will it?) the scenes at Old Trafford were appalling. They bring football into disrepute, give ammunition to those who oppose our favourite game, those who oppose our stadiums (existing and yet to be built). They give kids the worst possible example and no joy should be taken by anyone, even ManU and Arsenal fans.

The FA (Most appropriate acronym) say they will look at the video evidence and punish accordingly.

If that's the case then at least 5 Arsenal players should get a ban and/or hefty fines and at least 2 ManU players should get the same.

I reckon an immediate 3 point deduction for both teams with a further 5 point deduction to be applied to either or both teams if they have one more player sent off this season for violence or dissent.

In this instance it is not a bit of fune

Now, I'm not one to defend ManUre - and I do think horsey-boy is something of a cheat - but after it was pointed out to Fergie just how bad a reputation his team had, he turned them around, and they have won the fair play award for two seasons in a row, something inconceivable 4 or 5 seasons ago.

And, fundamentally, the Arsenal players were out of order, no matter what they thought of RvN's behaviour, and nothing can excuse that.

No, RVN was booked for the challenge on Viera.

Fact is, Viera shouldn't have flung his boot out like that, he was asking for trouble.

Twatty Tony Gale was going on on Capital Gold last night, giving it the old "I've played a few games, blah blah blah" and he reckons that RVN was out of order turning to the ref. Bollocks, Viera went for him and, regardless of whether or not contact was made, RVN was right to turn to Bennett and say "What the f***?"

For the record I thought Bennett had a good game. Still a tosser though.
