Fcuking Cyclists. Stick To The Cycle Lanes You ****s!

Why oh why do cyclists along the seafront in particular STILL continue to cycle along the road and hold up the traffic as we dodge past them, when they have an empty cycle lane which is far safer for them?

I can't understand it. This morning, whilst in the traffic, I counted 10 cyclists on the road and only four in the cycle lanes.

The cycle lane is a scandal, so dangerous and useless. There is a perfectly good promenade for cycling on though.

Have you ever tried cycling along the cycle lane? its lethal at this time of year with pedestrians weaving in and out of it who don't realise its there.

Cycle lanes-what a great John Major legacy. I hardly ever see them being used (and I'm on the road nearly all day). All they've given us is a load of narrower roads all over the bloody country. Get rid of 'em I say!

The cycle lane on the seafront is bloody dangerous, especially for pedestrians. If the council REALLY wants to help cyclists in that area, it should widen the seafront road on the beach side, pushing the kerb back, and have the cyclists in their own lane OFF the pavement.

Seeing how countries like Germany and Sweden utilise cycle lanes and then looking at the hodge-podge attempt in this country makes one proud to be British:rolleyes: :shootself

The best cycle lane in the world is the 65 metre stretch on the A272 just outside Haywards Heath, it is not connected to anything at either end, and you have to negotiate about a mile of a busy major road before you can reach it. Then you come off the other side into a major roundabout. Lovely.

I started a similar thread a few months ago and I am in total agreement with the posters here. How many times have you been hit by a cyclist who ignores traffic lights or rides on the pavement ?

It's high time that all cyclists had third party insurance.

I do hate cyclists but it's not their fault that the cycle lanes are so f***ed up. If everyone cycled instead of driving everywhere then this world would be a much healthier place to live. It's just a shame that this country cannot seem to sort it's traffice problems out. Better bus routes and cycle lanes would really alleviate the traffic problems in this town but instead of putting the cycle lanes in useful places they stick em up dyke road on the way out of town where nobody cyles and cars just park in them anyway to keep people happy.

Agree with Alan about just how ridiculous the one along the seafront is.

Although the fact that there's a cycle lane along the seafront at all is an improvement - as a regular user of it, I actually quite enjoy snarling at the fat ugly Cockney children who clutch their gaudy and highly-flammable toys off the Palace Pier as they wobble around in it.

The reason people don't use the cycle lane on the seafront is because people walk in it because they like the pretty purple tarmac and if you ride out of it to avoid them you are liable to a £30 fine from jobsworth policemen waiting to collar you. Therefore you're better off using the road.
I drive and cycle and I'm all for making the city as cycle friendly as possible. There should be cycle lanes on every road and they should be effectively policed to stop wanker drivers parking or driving in them. As said above the Dyke road one is a perfect example of a shit scheme. A good cycle lane that could be very safe and useful for cyclists is made pointless because they have to weave in and out to avoid the parked cars.
The best way to sort the one on the seafront would be to close the road to cars give the whole road to cyclists and tell the drivers to get off their lazy, fat arses, out of their cars, and stop destroying our city/country/planet by insisting that they must take their car everywhere they go.

Third party? THIRD PARTY??? So when I am in Hospital because YOU drove me off the road you can claim off me for your scratched hubcap??????

Wasn't me. Anybody ever tell you that two wrongs don't make a right ? Please don't deny that fact that whislt there are undoubtedly irresponsible motorists there are also cyclists with exactly the same mentality.

And they all have beards and wear hush puppies too.

I cycle to work about 10 miles each way, and there are dickheads on both sides. All I will say is that housewives chatting to their mates in their 4x4's taking little Johnny half a mile to school cause more damage to me when I go over their bonnet as they pull out of a side road than I do to them.

Who you calling ****t!

I drive a cycle depending on the weather and in the main think people like you are bigger ****t!'s !!

If people didn't walk in the middle of cycle lanes perhaps they wouldn't have to use the road. I had a bad accident in a cycle lane when some wanker jumped out in front of me.

Also, drivers seem blind to cyclists especially old women who think they can just come out from a side road without looking. Are you one of these??

Absolutely right. The are some irresponsible cycles just as there are irresponsible motorists, the difference is that cyclists don't tend to kill people, motorists do. You're not comparing like with like.

In most European countries, the driver is held at fault whenever he/she hits a cyclist - that's one law change they should bring over here.

And people are right about cycle lanes, some of them are in the most barking mad places and the decent ones in town are badly policed so the wankers park on them.

The council should be doing more about blocking off roads to motorists, perhaps have that seafriont road (King Street?) as one-way for drivers and cyclists on the other side, it would be a quick way through town.

We should be looking at encouraging cycling: it means less road congestion, less pollution, fewer road repairs, fewer people on public transport and a healthier population. The scariest statistic that I saw last year was that Britons owned fewer cars than most other Europeans but topped the league for most journeys made by car. That seems about right to me: I know plenty of Germans who would cycle a journey of three or four miles and think it mad to use a car, there are too many lazy sods over here who get in a car and drive a similar distance. Totally crazy

I agree with El P.

Yes, some cyclists disobey the laws and drive dangerously. So do cars. Pedestrians can be eediots sometimes as well. It is what humans do, they fvck about and blame everybody else.

Its just that considering the cyclists are the ones most likely to find themselves elegantly draped over a fence with a wheel spoke rammed up their arse because the person with the Vauxhall Frontera was telling the kids in the back to sit still, it amazes me that they are also the ones that come under fire the most. Or do the words "minority", "easy" and "target" come into it?

On another note, does anyone remember when that kid got a brake handle in their eye a few years back on the promenade, because he ran onto the cycle lane and collided with a cyclist? I still remember that and am always worried about cycling on cycle paths directly next to pedestrian areas when they are crowded.

I would go as far as to say that the Brighton seafront cyclepath is the worst of its kind in the country.

I believe the 5% rise in cyclists coincided with a 3% drop in traffic accidents recently.
They should just widen the road to include the cycle lane. Then pedestrians won't be in it and you wonderful gas-guzzling, noise-polluting roadhogs can feel happier.

The last few days i've been honked at and swerved past and shouted at and given all sorts of gestures. I stop at all red lights and do my best to make sure i don't get in cars' ways because i don't want to die. I'm sick of it. I'm trying to get to work too.
