............ the old No 8 circular from Hangelton to er ..... Hangelton via the goldstone Brighton Station Preston street and Hangelton Valley, and the original 77 that used to go up Hove street along Hangelton Road then really really struggle up snakey Hill to the Dyke then back to Rottingdean via the Marina

Palmeria square unless I am very much mistaken what year though?????????

That's a good 'un, ToT.

The memories ... walk to Rottingdean along the Undercliff, open top bus back home to Brighton.

Did anyone see the story the other day about the City Council proposing a permanent closure of part of the Undercliff walk, because English Nature won't accept the cliff protection work that has been proposed?

Now this is a good topic

My favourite is the old No 7. At home end I would get off at Ovingdean, top of Ainsworth Avenue, and walk over the hill (past Queer John’s – at a slightly faster pace) and home.

I used it for Primary School – getting on at Bristol Road in Kemp Town (the old St John the Baptist), secondary school (not always) from Cromwell Road. I used it to get to the Albion - getting off at Hove Station and walking (well running and shouting actually) over the wooden bridge. I used it to get back from town when we had been to Shades or the Buccaneer, the last bus went at 11pm. I had my first kiss on the bus, and was told the facts of life (I didn’t believe it – and I’m still not sure). I fell off it – going up Ainsworth when everyone used to pile to the exit (there was no door then) – I got there first and couldn’t stop. And I held two of the finest breasts in the county on one momentous journey.

I could go on, but that was a great bus route. Through Kemp Town, bottom of Whitehawk, Roedean, along the coast road, then Ovingdean. One of the best things was that because of the dog-leg at Ovingdean if you saw it pulling away at the top of Ainsworth – you could leg it down Beacon Hill and get on it down the bottom.

The 7 was Brighton Corporation Bus and this is about Southdown/Brighton and Hove and District routes so get off at the next stop and get your own thread

And the No17 - what a bus that was. It was like being immediately on holiday - you could not get on the top deck and not laugh. And living in Rottingdean there was a felling it was put on for us.
