Was it the fastest goal?

Faster than any of Peter Ward's; his fastest was against Derby County in 37 seconds in the late seventies in the League Cup tie before a 32,5000 capacity evening* crowd at the Goldstone.

(* I think the capacity was reduced for evening games.)

Almost certainly our fastest goal, and obviously the fastest goal of "The Championship". Dunno if its near or actually the League (after 1992 non-prem) record.

Nowhere near the world record (2.5 seconds, against Eastbourne I think) though.

if you shoot straight from the kick off and the keeper palms it into the net ........then its a goal!

Almost, and there was an incredibly high wind in the direction of that net.

I don't think Walter's goal was any faster? I think it was about the same as?

I remember at the time they were exaggerating abit. I don't think it was any quicker than Peter Ward's at Hereford which I remember like it was yesterday. About 50 seconds.

Not a spectacular goal, just a nudge in (first ever touch of the ball for the Albion), but better than Dixie McNeil's (Hereford) equaliser which was handled into the net.

Molango's goal was something special and could be the beginning of a legend?

According to Tim Carder on SCR Peter wards was timed at 50 secs and according to Sky my wife says that they said 19 secs.

Funnily enough I was thinking at the game that it must have been the fastest ever goal we have scored. No doubt Tim Carder will be able to find out

I once took a kick off, passed it to the guy on my right, who shot it straight into the net.

A Birmingham Under-15s league match donkeys years ago.

Unfortunately, it wasn't at the start of the match, but from a re-start just after we'd conceded a goal.

I think the official time for Peter Ward's goal was 50 seconds. I remember mentally timing it at 23 seconds.
i.e really quicker than the Derby goal.

However, anybody who managed to arrive on time, we remember the mayhem and disorganisation that proceeded the match.

Based upon the previous visit of Newcastle United the West Midlands constabulary thought they had some idea, and all the Albion fans received precise instructions of what to do. The only trouble was that the Albion allocation was only 2,000 or so and even an hour before the start 4,000 has already turned up and they would not fit in the space. So the Albion fans were allocated the large side biggest terrace. Or at least that is where we were, it seemed that Albion fans were in all four corners of the ground.

I do not think I have exaggerated the crowd figues. cf. Reading. if 3,000 or so turned up at Reading, what does this mean for the number of peope who would attend the home games ifn they had a chancer?

In the old Third Division the average gate for the following season was well over 24,000.

PS: it is possible that the Albion contingent at that game was 8,000. I don't know.
