No, it's simple physics. The light bulb is a heat source which melts the wax, thus reducing its density and causing it to rise within the nice coloured liquid, as the wax rises it cools down and becomes denser again which causes it to sink back into the nice coloured liquid again. The light bulb also heats the nice coloured liquid and induces a convection current, which makes things that much more interesting.

And that reminds me, what a lovely place Southwold is. It's like Lewes on the coast. And that pub by the lighthouse that has about 10 different Adnams ales on the go is ruddy marvellous.
