Not really no. He did tell me to "f*** off and die" because I dared to suggest that scarf was shit. The man appears to be little more than a gobby, unprincipled fraud.

Attila and TLB have reached an amicable agreement about the settlement of this wager, have they not?

A bet that I made with The Laughting Bluebird in 2004 that AFC would be higher than Franchise in 5 years time. They didn't make it (though they will soon) and about 2 months before the bet was finished I emailed the Welsh bloike to say I'd pay up. He never replied. I then said I'd put £500 behind the Supporters' Bar at our first fixture at Falmer. I'm going to - and I shall be proposing a toast to everyone who fought to save our club - so I hope many of you who did will be there to have a drink on me. I don't know why people accuse me of welching on it, apart from the obvious fact that many people just say anything about anything, which is their prerogative of course. I have a fulfilled, happy life (though the last years have been difficult for family reasons, as those who know me well realise) and, Beachy, you are so NICE to me in person that your wind ups really are..well...just that! Happy New Year to one and all. And, Ernest, didn't you have some sort of a bet which involved you dancing round the pitch which you WELCHED on? Maybe you could do it to Motorhead's 'Ace of Spades' when I play it at the last game at Withdean!

Attila did indeed offer to pay the bet in October 2009 via a PM that I read today for the first time. He wrote:

"Well, we are playing Franchise today ..... which reminded me of our bet, which finishes in December I believe. I am going to honour it. If you send me a message with the name of the football charity you want to receive the money, and an address to send it to, I shall put a cheque in the post when I get back from my German tour on the 20th or so.

"I hope you are enjoying your new stadium. One day soon we will have ours! Shame about the 14 year wait ..... Cheers A"

So there we go. He offered to honour the bet after all, but I didn't get to see the offer as I hadn't visited this message board for a long time and I'd forgotten my password.

Perhaps Attila would now like to make a small donation to our Fred Keenor statue appeal, which is being organised by the Cardiff City Supporters' Trust. Or maybe he'll put a few quid over the bar when the new stadium opens. I'm happy either way, as let's be honest here - it was a stupid bet in the first place!

I was bought up on that cup final (old man comes from Llandaff), 1-0 against Arsenal, a penalty I believe? Also, wasn't the arsenal goalie transferred from Cardiff in the months before the Final?

Is that the pen that squeezed under the goalie's (apparently slippery and shiny) shirt, leading to the tradition at Arsenal that the goalie never has an unworn shirt (or something like that)?

Where's all the apologies then from the people who ran the bloke down for being a 'fraud' then?

Bankers indeed

No, but he was a Welsh international from the Rhondda. His name was Dan Lewis. Arsenal had signed him from Mardy three years earlier. Apparently, he was never the same man after his mistake had cost the Gunners the Cup. He did go on to make over 140 appearances for them though.

Yes, that's the one. I doubt they have continued with that tradition in the modern era, but apparently they made sure all of their keepers' jerseys were washed at least once before being used for decades after the 1927 final.
