I've read the old thread, and Attilla never actually took the bet. His only response after the £500 was mentioned was this;

Re: the bet, yes I was just in from the pub but I'm a man of my word, So if AFC
Wimbledon aren't above Franchise in 5 years time I shall be putting £500 behind the bar at our new stadium at Falmer for a great big NSC piss up ....

Enough of YOUR lies this is the actual words of Atilla...

Glenn Hoddle - great post!
Bluebird - absolutely dead serious. Think about it. In 5 years time AFC Wimbledon will be higher than Franchise. If you want it - you're on.
Money to the winner's deserving football cause of choice.

Yes. And then Bluebird mentioned the £500 figure, and Attilla responded with the post I quoted above.

Slightly hypocritical of you to be getting pious about people welching on bets anyway, big man.

Afternoon.
This is what I said to Bluebird earlier:

Bluebird,

You've been well and truly had.
You posted a big wind up comment re AFC and general fans' activism, which made me angry because I have spent an awful long time doing my best to help save the Albion and know very well how AFC fans battled to do the same for their club.

If I want to make a bet, I go to a betting shop (done it once in my life)
If I want to get a mouthy Bluebird as wound up as I was about his comments, I do what I did. Judging by your repeated mentions of the subject, it obviously worked!

I'm sure you are aware that AFC have a 10 year (at least) plan to get back into the league. There was never the slightest chance they would overtake Franchise. You know that, I know that. April Fool. Whatever time of year it was!
Cheers
A

Simple as that, really....

Having said that, when we get Falmer, we'll do another in the long line of fundraising gigs - and the money raised will go behind the supporters' bar for the first match!!

Cheers A

Hey, here we go. I like this idea. The battle's over, Falmer is built and ready, the inaugural game is finished and the magnificent variety of real ales are installed and tapped in the Supporters' Bar. In tribute to everyone who has fought to keep our club alive, Albion fans and our may friends in the UK and abroad, I shall put £500 behind the bar and we'll drink a toast to the future. Bluebird, you are welcome to join us. So are you, Rochdale.

'And one day, when our new home's built, and we are storming back
A bunch of happy fans without a care
We'll look back on our darkest hour and raise our glasses high
and say with satisfaction: we were there.'

And Seagulls Ska will reform and play the 'hit' again - for the very last time.
There you go.

Enjoy Cheltenham and give 'em a cheer from me. I'm off on tour to Germany tomorrow (last bit organised after Northampton - I was starting to think about an emergency flight back........)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - Attila - The work you've put in for the club over the last 10-15 years has been magnificent but please no more songs or poems about how we miss the goldstone...It's so depressing! Can we not have something a bit more positive ...Anyone would think you a loony lefty rather than a blue rinse Tory boy :lolol:

Thanks for the offer but I think I'll give it a swerve. Sussex is a long way to travel for a pint, especially as the chances are I'd have to buy it myself.

21/12/2004

Attila: "Tell you what, Bluebird, £500 says that AFC Wimbledon are higher in the league than Franchise in 5 years time!"

22/12/2004

TLB: "Have you lost your marbles? If you honestly want this bet you're on, but I can't believe you're serious......"

Attila: "Absolutely dead serious. Think about it. In 5 years time AFC Wimbledon will be higher than Franchise. If you want it - you're on. Money to the winner's deserving football cause of choice."

TLB: "I have thought about it, and I think you've either been on the pop or you've gone nuts! It's going to be incredibly difficult for AFC Wimbledon to overtake Milton Keynes in just five years unless, of course, Milton Keynes go bust. If you honestly do want this bet then you're on. £500 to the footballing cause of the winner's choice for whichever team is higher in the English pyramid system on 22/12/2009. Attila is represented by AFC Wimbledon. The Laughing Bluebird is represented by Milton Keynes. Game on!"

Toronto Seagull: "I think this thread should be NSC Gold. I've made a note in my diary to check this in five years time, so the appropriate donations can be made."

02/05/07:

TLB: "As AFC Wimbledon lost to Bromley last night and will consequently be playing in the Ryman Premier League again next season, and with the MK Dons currently occupying one of the League Two play-off places, would you like to pay up on our £500 bet of 22/12/2004 now? No point in delaying the inevitable."

Attila: "You've been well and truly had."

Fraud.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but surely 5 years from 2004 is 2009? Therefore, any bet whether valid or not, isn't actually due?

Of course. But AFC Wimbledon's failure to get promoted this season now means it's effectively impossible for them to get ahead of the MK Dons by December 2009.
