Falmer in the bag surely?

There are some planning hurdles to jump through before the University's (part) relocation is completely assured. But they - and the City Council - are on the case.

Whether it will reach the point that the Albion Supporters' Club will be organising a petition in support of academic development at the University remains to be seen.

And it wouldn't completely amaze me if Falmer Parish Council started to take a peculiar interest in the need for university teaching accommodation, in the light of evolving government policies relating to higher education.

As I understand it, we cannot begin work until the University have all the planning permission for their new buildings approved.

In your opinion Lord B, what is the probably date we could start work on Falmer, assuming our plans are approved by JP.

All this talk about the the uni, I thought we had a backup plan in 'village way south', wasnt that why two planning applications were submitted?
So that if they could not negotiate with the univeristy they could site the stadium furthe south?

The Village Way South application has been withdrawn. The Public Inquiry hasn't dealt with it.

It is obviously the University's responsibility to achieve planning consent for their new buildings. The Club just want vacant possession of the site.

What is quite common in these situations is for the two parties to agree a date for transfer of possession and for a financial penalty clause to apply if transfer is delayed for any reason. If early possession is achieved, the developer may be willing to pay a premium.

Not all the work has to await the University of Brighton giving vacant possession of its land, of course. Most of the Stadium site is on land owned by the City Council. And there is other work that needs to be done at the University of Sussex and on the Falmer School site which doesn't depend on the University of Brighton.

So, does that mean that provided we have the contractors lined up waiting, we could conceivably start work as soon as Prescott delivers his decision.

It's not actually Prescott who will be making the decision. think it'll be yvette cooper, albeit based on gov policy and planning guidelines

These decisions are delegated, housing and planning is the responsibility of Keith Hill MP, but since he's a London MP, London and the SE decisions go to Yvette (at least that's what he thinks)

We are waiting a long time for this to happen - it seems odd that many other towns get stadiums without any problems - you'd think that Brighton City, especially, would recognize the brilliant positive effect a sports entertainment facility like this will have for locals and the surrounding county. At least we may eventually say the stadium was given a lot of care and consideration to make it happen (in other words the councilmen can pat themselves on the back and take credit out of it regardless that it took such a long time!)

I believe it will impact Britain as a whole, ultimately, to have our City bring itself into the future - and it can help to fund the preservation of some of the older attractions, if the governing bodies delegate some of the income well .

It will increase a sense of pride in Brighton, if done correctly and if the club and Uni work with schools and youth organisations.
I believe the Uni can use the proximity of the club well for studies in sports health and medicine .

The potential is huge, in my opinion. Centuries ago it was a castle that heralded the importance of a town - now it's a sports stadium . It's a long time coming for Brighton and Hove, and the need and desire for it is evident.

look it is not "in the bag" until Prescott or one of his ministers (Rooker?) actually say Yes. doesn't matter how robust the case is, how positive the Inspectors report is, until Fat John gives us the green light it can't happen.

Does anyone know whether if, as we hope, John Prescott gives the go ahead for the stadium to be built, the NIMBYs could appeal. I bloody well hope not since that would just delay matters even more.

sorry but i'm one of many fans who think falmer
is only 50/50 and i think anybody who thinks differently
is doing it through there heart.It just seems to have
