Nope - that's a new one on me, seems reasonable though. It's not as if it takes me long to work it out, but it's just not automatic, and I have to double check with myself every time.

I also "think" I remember being rapped over the knuckles if I wrote with my left hand - although that may be a borrowed memory from someone else.

We had a victorian day when I was at junior school, and we had to use our right hands. Being left handed myself that was tricky. One girl used her right hand and was taken to the back of the class "to be caned". We weren't supposed to look, but we snuck a peek, and the teacher caned a chair. The girl still cried though.

Actually when you chew your stomach generates acids that are for breaking down and digesting food. However, if no food arrives (as it wouldn't) then the acids will work on your stomach lining which in turn can cause ulcers.

Hate to tell you but your teacher was right.

What about if you swallow the chewing gum? Then, your acids will have something to work on!

Go on - tell me it stays in your GI tract for seven years now . . .

A bit off thread but I don't hold with the theory that 'Wagon Wheels' are smaller than they used to be.

Surely it's just that our hands are bigger making them appear smaller?

I remember as a small boy in the 70s it was considered normal whilst driving for the adults to smoke with the windows full up.

Also, EVERYTHING went in the bin in those days and only newspapers got recycled, maybe a few lemonade bottles taken back to the Co-op.

Dogshit was never bagged and dogs were free to shit anywhere, including kids playing fields.

Happy days.

as a nipper my mum would, on watching me stick my finger up my nose, utter the phrase "don't pick your nose or you feet will fall off"

she lied.

You're more likely to choke on it but how many people do you know that intentionally swallow chewing gum ?

My dad had the direct line to Father Christmas and would ring him up if I had been naughty and discuss taking me off his delivery list right in front of me...and it worked! I behaved and I got Christmas presents.

Are any of you parents out there using any of the things used against yourselves with your kids? My boy is too young at the moment but I have played the part of Father Christmas over the phone to my nephews when they were playing up near to Christmas time.

I distinctly remember being told that your "Right" hand is the one that you "Write" with. Seemed logical to me ... but I'm left-handed. Here I am at the ripe old age of 46 and I still have to think twice to decide which is my left hand.

A lot of people used to demand that you wrote with your right hand even if you were left handed. I remember a person I was at school with who had been educated at a convent where the nuns would slap his hand with a ruler if he used his left hand.

Seems incredible now.
