Ah, the old double-standards question. It's been debated a lot on here and I've promised doug that I'll lighten up today so I'm keeping quiet.....Oh f*** it, I can't.

As far as I see it, it is acceptable within the application of the law in this country to been involved in football debate, chanting or whatever and sing or make derogatory comments about The Welsh, The Scotts, The Irish, The French, the folically challenged, the fat, the ugly and homosexuals as long as you don't say anything nasty about black people, Asian people or Jews.

So there isn't any difference between jokingly calling Welsh people sheep shaggers and glorying in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people in the gas chamber? :shootself

And where exactly did I say that?

There is a massive difference of course but if you'd have read properly what I said regarding the application of discrimination laws you wouldn't, I hope, have jumped to that knee-jerk reaction. In a society where young men are beaten to death for being gay don't you think it hypocritical that not a single person has been ejected from Withdean for chanting vile homophobic abuse at us?

People seem to be under the impression that we mods spend all our time reading every post that appears on NSC.

We don't.

I usually work on the principle that the best way to deal with offensive posters is for NSC members themselves to see off the culprits. If there are postings that should be deleted, there is a facility to Report this post to a moderator.

That will usually get some action from a mod. The post might be deleted. The poster might get a warning. On rare occasions, there might be a banning. Sometimes nothing will happen.

If NO complaints are received, usually NOTHING will happen. I've not received any complaints about anything TheRoseofWhiteness has posted.

I know I've been a critic of some of the moderating on here before LB regarding homophobia and the like but in this instance I was referring more to what goes on at matches.

At the risk of sounding a bore on the subject I make no apologies for the homophobia thing being my personal bugbear. I honestly think that a lot of the chanting and abuse Brighton supporters are subjected to home and away is disgraceful and goes well beyond light-hearted banter. Some of the stuff from recent seasons from Cardiff, Leeds and Sheffield Utd fans (to name but a few) has been pretty vicious in its vitriolic delivery.

The problem is that if this sort of abuse is tolerated whilst people are ejected and banned for shouting out something racist then the more impressionable and unhinged in our society get the impression that queer-bashing is fair game and that leads directly to the demonisation of homosexuals as a sub-class within society, which is exactly what happened to the Jews in Nazi Germany. It's the thin end of the wedge and is proved by the rise in vicious assaults on homosexual men up and down the country.

If you tolerate this, then your children will be next.

I know what you mean, Hungry Joe.

Personally, I regularly feel offended by listening to Albion fans chanting about northern slums - maybe because I was born in Leeds (which is mainly a delightful city - especially since its recovery from the mess that the road builders made of it in the 1960s and 70s, when the slum clearance programme was completed).

I put this down to simple ignorance. But - hey! - we're at a football match, not a seminar on town planning.

I also find some "post-modern irony" fairly amusing. I appreciate that there are fine lines to follow. But, basically, football would be poorer if Cardiff City supporters didn't chant "I'd rather shag a sheep than a bloke" when they visit Withdean.

And, in relation to my first point, this somehow shuts me up (from Manchester United supporters) ...

In your Monaco slums,
You look in the dustbin for something to eat,
You find a baguette and you think it's a treat,
In your Monaco slums.

In your Monaco slums,
Your mum's on the tables, your dad's in the bank,
You sit in your mansion whilst having a wank,
In your Monaco slums.

:lolol:

True Lord B, can't argue with any of that. I'm all for a bit of post-modren irony and banter and agree that football would be the poorer if it became over sanitised but some of the stuff we're expected to put up with goes way beyond that. I'm a southerner through and through but I never joined in the 'sign-on' chants to Liverpool fans or the northern slum songs in the 80's because I thought they were overly offensive and I knew exactly how I'd have felt if on the receiving end, I'd have felt like kicking someone's head in.

I don't know why because I reported it using that facility

Bounced so that moderators can look into why that facility didn't work.

Well I for one dont care what he wrote. We have all heard the "Auschwitz" song sung at Tottenham fans...Brighton sung it when we played them in the 80's, so lets not all get high and mighty.

I am more concerned that Enoch Powel's statement about " rivers of blood" appears to be accurate when talking about the relationship between Asians and Affro carribean extraction Black people.

I am just popping off to don my White Cape and hitch up the burning cross in the front garden.

Ed...you didnt answer my question BTW, are we burning Pikies at the Firle Bonfire next week?

Somethings up with the reports system, not a lack of reports.

And the private messages as well because I sent one a while back whilst Lord B was online.

I did receive the complaints about RoseOfWhiteness, removed the comments made on the main board, sent him a PM asking him to apologise on the board, and when he didn't I banned him 30 minutes later.

Yes, burn him, with Vicks Vaporub to the Jap's Eye.

Jap's Eye, is that not racial stereotyping Joe? As for the Northern Slums comments, I like living in my 4 bedroom detached house in Manchester that cost less than a garage in the South. Cheap beer and loose women, that's why we are here!
