Because of the bloody pope. Are we a Roman Catholic country? Isn't he just another flesh and blood person like everyone else? Would the BBC news be extended because of the death of the head of the Church of England!!! Answers please

Since that's the Queen I think we can expect all programmes for weeks to be cancelled when she passes on.

Since the head of the church of England is the Queen, then I think the answer is a big yes.

( and you'd have to wait until tomorrow for Match Of The Day )

We aren't a Roman Catholic country, but there are a hell of a lot of Roman Catholics in this country.

Do you think we should "send em all back" - these Roman Catholics ?

If MOTD wasn't delayed for extended coverage of the head of something you believed in (e.g. Rowan Williams if that applies to you, Dick Knight, whoever), you'd moan

its only five fecking minutes. You'd be waiting that long if MOTD was on ITV or Sky anyway, due to ads.

and I'm sure you watched every minute of the coverage, gripped.

Nope, but having Catholics in my family and being respectful of people beliefs I wasn't too upset in that Match of the Day was delayed by 5 mins. Get up 5 minutes earlier tomorrow to make up for it.

Totally true MYOB, I retract my earlier irrational post, I'm just all Poped out. Better get on with MOTD.

When Di the Slapper kicked the bucket the whole football schedule was postponed due to 'respect' for the little hussy. Five minutes for JPII ain't a huge sacrifice by comparison is it?

Totally agree EP, when I switched on at 1030 I figured this was still the first item of news and would be ongoing for a long time, didn't realise it would only be five minutes (as Clapham Gull kindly points out above). To reiterate, CM retracts the sentiments displayed in his original post, apologises for any offence caused to Catholics and non-Catholics and respects the memory of the late Pontiff despite feeling that the media frenzy over the last few days has been excessive.

Looked on teletext and it's not listing MOTD for this morning. Much as I respect the fact that the Pope did some good things on the whole - and not just for Roman Catholics - I'll be annoyed if I have to listen to an endless journalistic wankfest of 'experts' blathering on to pad out three hours of Breakfast News.

Couldn't see MOTD last night, so will be mightily pissed off if they've pulled it this morning.

It's on BBC2, now.

Fucks sake; that wasn't listed on teletext!

Hope I haven't missed Newcastle.

Balls. There's some crap Jamie Carragher thing on at the moment, which I assume is it... but I've missed almost all of it I bet.

How difficult would it have been for BBC1 to mention that it had been moved at the time it was supposed to start??
