Seems a sensible approach in a City that already appears to have quite a bit of a congestion problem.

I tend to respect your opinion on such issues, so hopefully the greens aren't quite as opposed to expansion as some have suggested.

Lord Bassam seems quite adamant they are - look him up on Twitter.

The only Green I've conversed with on the subject expressed concerns at the impact on Coldean et al due to the influx of cars seeking parking spaces. He made it clear he had to represent his constituents, quite rightly, obviously.

I have it on good authority that we already, as good as, have permission to put the top tier on the East stand and fill the South West corner to cater for the growing 1901 waiting list. This will happen at the end of the season.

Clearly they are all arguments FOR but if we're unable to demonstrate the roads wont be knackered every other Satuday I'm not sure it'll count for much.

Well hopefully planning consent is just a formality nad all of these issues have been sorted. Lets face it Perry must be dab hand at going through the planning process by now!

I can understand the comment that P+R can be an issue, as you have to drive to it in the first place.

Take Mill Road for example, for those of us coming down the A23 it's perfect - but full very early.

The next nearest option is Mithras House, which involves quite a slow journey, and means adding to the congestion on the A27.

I know a P+R at Hickstead has been mooted on here, sound like a good idea.

What about one for fans coming from the East?

Your good authority is wrong, as the planning application hasn't even been submitted yet.

It's not only the transport around the stadium they have to consider - it's across the city, and any major transport movement has a knock-on effect somewhere. It's for the club to prove that they can keep it to an acceptable minimum.

Quite, and they are well aware of that. This is one of the reasons why they are so supportive of the club's work.

Fair enough.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on/awnser some of my points.

Hickstead is a long way to get more than one run out of each bus.

That's true.

Where else could we find an additional 2 or 3 P+R sites that don't involve actually driving into the City?

The one at Southampton for away fans is only a field, yet seems to work fine.

Let's just flatten Falmer Village and turn it into a decent sized car park

I believe the car park behind Saltdean Lido has been suggested. Don't know if that will work, though if it does, it will only be for people in Saltdean / Telscombe Cliffs / Peacehaven.

I'm no structural engineer - how feasible would it be to complete this work during, say, next close season? Presumably the new East Stand top deck requires plenty more steel and concrete, hence cranes etc, so we don't want work beginning there during the season as it would mean closing areas of the ESL (health and safety if the East Stand became a hardhat area again ...)

Christ if I'd paid £105m for a poxy 22k stadium I would have hoped the expansion would already have been factored into that price!!!

Good grief, try to remember that a good chunk of that cost went in the peripheral costings for 1) Sussex Uni access changes, 2) Brighton Uni buildings/changes. 3) Legal and planning costs 4) Transport changes... 5) Road changes and additions.

I wouldnt mind betting that 40-50% of the overall costs went on these other activities

Good shout.

A park and Ride that you can walk to. There are quite a few people from Whitehawk that walk to the Racehill (through the tunnel underthe racecourse) and catch the P+R from there.

Middlesbrough paid £16m to build the 30,000-capacity Riverside, the venue for Albion's next match.

It cost £5 to fill in the corners to add 5,000 seats. They rarely (if ever?) fill it.
