Whether considered good or bad, our song had been done to death months prior to the competition and anyone with any degree of musical taste knew what a load of crap it was, leading us all to question how the hell it got chosen by some unknown consortium.
furthermore, it is not a song contest - it’s more about the performance and staging.
Croatia would have got my vote if I could have been arsed to vote.

I was impressed by Switzerland, powerful song very well performed with memorable but not too complicated staging on the tippy table.

France or Italy also would have deserved the win in my opinion.

I wasn't surprised at all that the UK vote went to Israel but remember that doesn't mean that a majority voted for them, just that they got more than any others. It doesn't take much for a political or a provocative vote choice to gain points in a field of 25.

UK - frankly we can't complain about always doing poorly when we always send the crappiest songs. Pitchy vocals, nonsensical staging, completely forgettable generic song.
Yeah, perhaps those that make these decisions should remember that the last time we sent someone with a powerful voice (Ryder), we all but one. Alexander is a great performer but doesn't have a powerful voice, it was a forgettable delivery.

It's a song contest. And the Israeli kid was bullied and threatened start to finish. Pleased for her.
It's part song contest but also a political contest - hence why Ukraine won it a couple of years ago. The poor kid shouldn't have even been put in the situation she was.

Being the only country to get zero from the public vote seems a bit harsh

Because there were at least three better songs out there if you’re judging this as a music show (France, Cyprus and Croatia). We also gave Ireland 10 FFS.
Ireland's entry was excellent. What makes you think you are the definitive arbiter of taste?

You remind me of Bob Harris and his 'not proper music' comments about the New York Dolls.

As much as I hate the phrase “it is what it is” that’s it. It’s shit it always has been. A lot of people have in my opinion, no taste in music and when I say that, I don’t like what they like and vice versa, as an example, people I know have been climbing over themselves recently to post on FB how good Take That were. This is my favourite song/band/album of the week. If it was entered you could guarantee it’d get less points that Malta

The UK phone vote gave 12 points to Israel, we should hang our heads in collective shame
Why? I didn't vote for them.

Your comment shows exactly why it is political. Had I voted for them it would, for me, have been about the song.

Did you hang your head in shame when 'we' voted for Ukrain whenever it was they won? That was certainly a political vote because the song was bland.

Vote for Switzerland; a country that deliberately disguises the assets of Russia and the rest of the criminal world. Switzerland is a country that built its wealth on gold teeth from Jews in Germany. Well done them.
I thought it was a song contest, not Historical Political Villainy Top Trumps

I presume Ireland didn't give our boy any votes because of the potato famine.

I personally didn’t watch 1 second of the Eurovision shite fest, I can’t really say I boycotted because of Israel as I never watch it anyway, but had I been a regular viewer I would have done.

Maybe, all the people who would have been bothered to vote for countries other than Israel were also boycotting the whole thing.

At least it gives the Gammon a different script this year, a change from” Why don’t the forriners vote for us, we’re obviously the best, we’re English, we invented the Beatles.

So the vote for Israel was purely political? Everything wrong with Eurovision encapsulated.

UK voters don't like being told what to do. It's why a man dressed as a monkey won a mayoral election and 24,000 people voted for a bin as London mayor, and I voted for a non existent donkey at the council by-election.

The UK phone vote gave 12 points to Israel, we should hang our heads in collective shame
You’re not one of those people that tell voters what to do are you @A1X ?

People can vote for what they want. I’m entitled to express my disagreement with their decision.

And the far right are already weaponising it.

Not sure replacing their old anti semitism with outright homophobia is progress.

I think it shows 2 things:

1. That people have no problem with camp, provided it is delivered with fun and /or style. This was soft core porn.

2. in their desire to shock the song and the vocals got lost. The song is a crucial part. It was overshadowed by all the writhings of the dancers in the sleazy public toilet set.
