this wont come to pass. the Germans will bail them out after local elections next week.

and if they don't and Greece defaults on it's debt, then some of the biggest losers will be German citizens, who have been prudently investing their savings in ...Greece. So a deal WILL be done, it is just a case of how far the Greeks can be pushed into sorting out their unmanageable debts.

The BBC News last night made a couple of interesting points, for those wishing to draw parallels with the UK economy.

1 The last few weeks has seen a net inflow of funds into the UK, demonstrating that the markets feel the UK is still a relatively safe haven.

2 One reason for this is that despite the high level of debt most of this is structured as long term debt, which means it does not need to be re-negotiated at any time soon, and is not therefore at the whim of speculators.

So to summarise yes things are bad right now, but there is no need for anyone to panic.
