I backed England to win the tournament with £ 100 at 13/2, thereofre I am a little pissed off this morning which may be clouding my objectivity.

Still think Sven got his tactics all wrong ( again ).

I will try and cheer up.

we only need to draw 2 games and well have a great chance of going through(taking that france win there next two matches)

switzerland were woeful yesterday. 3-0 to us i think

croatia perhaps a draw but we should beat them really.

dont worry. to lose by one goal to france will be a good result in this group. switzerland and croatia will get killed by them and we can beat switzerland any day

a win on thursday against the swiss and ill bet my house on us going through*

*this has not been an authorised statement/deal therefore mr no12 will not be leaving his house due to a unfortunate england result

ITs difficult to remain positive I know.
But we will qualify from this group.

And once it gets to the knock-out stages its a lottery.

Woeful substitions?

Owen - was quiet, getting no change from the defence and had been running his arse off for three quarters of the game trying to create space. Solution- bring on Vassel's pace to worry them as he has done in other England games to great effect. Good decision

Rooney - played very well but was lucky to not be booked already and must have been on at least a final warning. Solution - Bring on Heskey (I'm sure the idea was to add a bit of height up front as well).

Scholes - On a booking and not having the greatest game of his life. Solution - bring on Hargreaves. No need to shirk a tackle and a better holding midfielder in general.

I can see nothing wrong with what Sven did. He can only use the players at his disposal and I don't think he put a foot wrong. It's a shame that Heskey made "that" tackle, but what's the guy meant to do?

Stop ranting and looking for scapegoats. France are ranked 2 in the world and deserved a draw at least. Sven is a football manager not a clairvoyant.

Another knee-jerk reaction from Gareth "sack Magoo, we should have had Tony Adams" Glover. :)

Calm down Gareth - it will all look brighter come 9:45 Monday evening.

Look, it's simple.

The loss last night was down to pure tactical genius for two reasons.

1. Sven suddenly recalled that the Portugese had lost, so sent the word out to throw the game. We'll now qualify 2nd in the group and avoid the hosts in a quarter final.

2. In all probability we would meet the French in the final. Now it's unlikely we'd be able to beat them twice, so again we lost on purpose so we can beat them in the final.

WE have no chance of qualifying and I think we will end up bottom of the group with 1 point.

Have faith. We will beat the Swiss and Croatia and go through in second place. I will be watching the QF in Lisbon. :D

Yes last nights loss was VERY upsetting but it could have been far worse. Imagine if we had being playing the Swiss first gaem and lost that. We lost to two moments of madness from us and good fortune (and one very good free kick) from them. They are ranked 2 in the world and despite all their procession they never really looked like scoring from open play.

I still belive we can get through this grp and i still belive we can go all the way. Lets stay behind the lads untill we know for sure we are out.

I'm with Jimmy Saville on this. I thought Sven had a great game - tactically, we were great - totally snuffed out the French threat. They kept building and building (what else would happen with Viera, Zidane, Henry and Pireson thepitch?), but how many shots on target did they have? And there was nothing wrong with the substitutions. Rooney HAD to come off - we need him in the next game, not suspended. Scholes was giving the ball away all the time, and did more to pile pressure on our midfield and back four than any other player on the pitch (including the French). And Owen was usless. Hesyey and Vassell held the ball up in the French half for more minutes than Owen and Rooney had managed in the 2nd half; and Hargreaves was no worse than Scholes.

This is my last post on any of the England/France postmortem threads, so I will say this again - for me, the issue has always been that we need to beat Croatia and Switzerland - nothing had changed, and if we play against them like we did last night, we will beat them both, easily. A point (or more) against France was always going to be icing on the cake, nothing more. We are only upset because, for a while, we thought we would win - classicly, we were lifted up and dumped down again. But I didn't expect us to win - I wanted a good performance, and I wanted a couple of players (King and Rooney) to prove their international potential and a couple of others to reassert their international reputations (Scholes and Owen). OK, so 3 out of 5 ain't good (performance, King, Rooney), but it certainly ain't bad either. Last night I was gutted; this morning I am fine.

We just need to beat the ITV jinx on Thursday, that's all.

Beat me to it. Please enlighten us Gareth as to who takes over. I see no decent English managers around. My major gripe with Sven is his obsession with 4-4-2.

After reflection I have calmed down a bit. However I still think Ericson made a major cock up yet again with his tactics and substitutions.

We all expect to win the tournament, we'd all love it but at the end of the day we are not good enough.

Ericson has never achieved anything with England in 3 years. 1-0 up against Brazil , lose 2-1 with an extra man. England 1-0 up against France and lost 2-1 in extra time.

Its all a bit familiar now isn't it. Why has he got a good reputation he is shit.

We will draw against the Swiss and lose to Croatia.

i have to say i agree with you gareth, sven has done nothing for the england team, and imho is a crap manager, he must go, now before it's too late

...oh, and Alan curbishley would be a good england manager, give it to him
