we all know how much many peope here hate man ure but when it comes to champions league fixtures, do you support them nonetheless?

i can't help feel torn. i hate man ure and arse-nal and all their fans but at the same time they represent the english clubs and part of me wants them to win, even many of the players aren't even british!
??? :ascarf: :)

Would prefer to see Man Utd, Chelsea do better than the likes of Bayern Munich. But when it comes to Arsenal, i couldn't be happier to see them get dumped out already!

I support the English teams in Europe as said before they represent us but have to say I was well chuffed for Chelsea, as I would love it if they got further than Man U and Arsenal.

I lived in Manchester when I was 3 & 4 so even though my Dad took us to watch Man City (in the Rodney Marsh era) I always have a soft spot for Manure in Europe.

Of course when we moved to Shoreham I was hooked on the Albion.

I've never had much care for Arsenal but did have a thought for Chelsea until they wrecked the North Stand Goldstone posts on a Tuesday night circa 1982?

I was only 14 & one of their 'adult' thugs started on me - how brave was that? I wish I could meet him now.

So Chelsea? Nah...........I hope it goes tits up for them.

Lived in Manchester for 23 years and hate the rags with a passion. I loathe Rangers too, but found myself vainly hoping for them to win last night.

I like Arsenal to do well mainly because Henry is the most graceful player I have ever seen. Chelsea are fine by me as it is good to see the local prawn sandwich brigade whining about the Premiership being 'bought' The irony of them saying that with a squad featuring

Ferdinand (£33 million)
Van Nistelrooy (£19 million)
Ronaldo (£12.6 million)
Forlan (£7.6 million)
Barthez (£7.8 million)
Kleberson (£5 million)
Keane (£3.5 million)
Djemba Djemba (£3.5 million)
Howard (£2.4 million)
Silvestre (£4.6 million)

etc. is of course lost on them

I like to see all British clubs (that includes Celtic and Rangers) do well in Europe, with the exception of Man Ure.

Hopefully Arsenal will qualify for the knockout stages (I doubt it, I can't see them winning at Inter) and I'm starting to like Chelsea more now that they have some English/British players in their squad (Cole, Lampard, Johnson).

depends. when they play depor, no way, but generally i kind of half heartedly support them. half of me thinks the cl is a pile of wank, the other half of me enjoys some of the superb matches that take place. before the manure juventus game in rome the year manure won the trophy i always hoped they would lose in anything. i got completely caught up in that game though, it was fantastic. roy of the rovers stuff, and so now, don't mind em too much in europe. especially if they play r.madrid or bayern munich.

Don't give a monkeys either way. Half of France supports Arsenal in Europe because they, quite rightly, think the club is more French than English. Man U don't see themselves as an English club any more but I remember supporting them in the 1968 European final so (unless they're playing St Pauli, Deportivo or Bayern Leverkusen) I don't actually want them to lose - but I certainly don't 'support' them.

I was watching Arsenal last night thinking that I really dont give a shite whether or not they win but, despite my domestic hatred for United and ambivalence towards Chelsea I would like to see them do well.

I wish all UK clubs well in their games abroad.

Despite the complete slagging off of Manure other clubs miss the point that they, solely, have gained the Premiersh1te an additional 4th place in the Champions League due to their consistent record.

Agree with this. I would rather none of them actually won anything, but they are no worse than B Munich.

Arsenal, however, can't lose enough for me. Such a pity last night.

During the games featuring English clubs in Europe, I find myself in a win-win situation. I'm happy if they beat other teams (who for the large part are simply their greedy equivalents abroad) but can't help laughing when it all goes pear shaped.

It's only after the game has ended that I turn my attention to the fact that the champions league is one of the reasons that local domestic football is struggling in this country (and possibly across the continent, I don't know). i.e. The "Worthless" and FA Cups now attract cack crowds and less interest because the big boys would rather finish in 4th instead of actually winning a trophy to get into this exclusive, competition (in which the first group stage is a total waste of time anyway)
