English anthem.

As the may elections are upon us and I was wondering if you’d want an English anthem instead of God Save The Queen. The Scottish National Party (Not related to the British national party)will in may batter all parties and will gain full independents from the rest of the UK come the general election but Labour are horrified as they’ll lose their jobs, and as for Brown saying we need to show britishiness but we know it’s just more spin from the Labour spin machine as if they really cared about this country then they’d of flown the union flag above downing street. The Scots, welsh have their own even do the English rugby team have their own national anthem so when the mighty English go it alone then we should have the appropriate anthem because the English public will say enough is enough.

Follow the link and click English anthem and listen and pick what you’d like. I don’t think many lefties will bother but the rest of you who are patriotic and you know who you are, get in and have a vote

English Anthem.

I like GSTQ.

Not sure what this has to do with Labour though? Are the Tories and Lib Dems big fans of providing an English anthem? Are they anti-Britishness and pro-Englishness, unlike, as you accuse, Gordon Brown?

Also not sure why lefties would be unpatriotic as you mention? Or why indeed being pro-Britishness could ever make you unpatriotic.

Oh hang on, you're a racist FUCKWIT with a BNP avatar. Apologies - REASONED DEBATE OVER.

Oceanic doesn't understand politics - he isn't intelligent enough.

So while having a proper debate on whether England should have its own national anthem is a correct thing to do, in my opinion, Oceanic turns it into party politics - something which is completely irrelevant in this matter.

Anyway, as a 'lefty' (not that Oceanic is intelligent enough to define what one of those is), I would very much like to see Blake's 'Jerusalem' as England's national anthem. Meanwhile, Oceanic, take your racist diatribes elsewhere and f*** off.

The Labour (Far left) hate anything to do with England, they're ashamed of our History. Mass immigration and call us 'British people' racist for mentioning it. Call me Dave is a mirror image of Tony dictator Blair. Brown? last month he said we've got to show more britshnessship only because the general public are fed up with mass immigration, but he'll not be any different to loony Tony, Brown will not fly the Union jack above downing street in case it offends ethnic minorities but if you visited other country you'd get told, don't like it leave. visit any other country in the world and they'll have their national flag flying with pride, oh, not us.

Labour are the loony leftie party who are politically correct, everyone has to be equal. the sooner this jumped up, corrupt, dishonest, politically correct brigade are out the better for this country.

Surely someone with such a vast knowledge of such matters as yourself would know that the Union Jack cannot be flown anywhere on dry land.

The Union FLAG, however...

Followed the link, couldn't be arsed to read all of it, couldn't see an obvious poll either. Given a choice I would probably vote for Land of Hope and Glory as an English anthem, to be sung whenever one of our sporting teams play, but retain GSTQ for anything when it is the UK as a whole.

That vote comes from someone who is also a lefty, but who is proud of being British and also of the parts of his identity that come from outside our shores.

People that vote BNP are the thickest people going.

By the way, if Oceanic is such a proud Englishman, how come he doesn't know the difference between couldn't have and couldn't of?

Put your glasses on and you'd see there's numerous polls on the anthem section.

People who vote 'Labour' are racists.

New Labour’s ceaseless quest for the unattainable utopia of equality and diversity ensures that “race” and “culture” are topics never far from the news headlines.

The latest diktat from Blair’s regime emanates from Labour Community Secretary Ruth Kelly who wants to reduce the numbers of aging white males in town halls in a bid to make councils more “representative”.

New figures from the government reveal that the “average councillor” is a 58-year-old white male and Ministers have today unveiled an initiative to attract more young, ethnic minority and female citizens into town halls.

A survey for the government's Improvement & Development Agency (IDA) found that only one in 200 councillors was black, and only 2.7% Asian.

Dismissive of the fundamentally democratic idea that voters in borough and district councils currently cast their mark for the best party and/or the best personality to represent their local concerns, Labour’s latest diktat implies that political parties contesting elections will need to draw up short lists based on the demographics of the borough/ward or constituency.

In so doing Labour is meddling, not only in the internal election procedures of political parties, but the wider issue of local council representation. The proposals can be seen as an attack on all political parties and on the thousands of thoroughly decent and hard working councillors from the Old Gang trio of Labour-Conservative-Liberal Democrats and other smaller parties who are doing what they can for their constituents under circumstances which are made increasingly difficult as a direct consequence of Treasury demands.

Given the current far-reaching review into funding of political parties it is not beyond the bounds of devious Labour thinking that political parties contesting local elections must draw up lists based on gender, age and ethnicity rather than the best person for the job, as a condition of State funding.

And why we're on this matter then how about this....

It is a bit of Scotland in the English Midlands but it is too white for the Home Office. Once home to a large British Steel plant the Northamptonshire town of Corby is now criminally neglected by New Labour and a further insult to injury to the good people of the town has been delivered by the Prison Service.

In an already horrendous month for job losses within Northamptonshire, 150 more are to go, this time in Corby, because the employees are too white! One of the factors behind a Prison service clerical centre moving from Corby to Leicester, with the loss of 150 jobs, is because the city boasts a "diverse workforce".

In a response to a letter sent to her, Ann Beasley, one of Home Secretary John Reid's top civil servants, said the town had too many white British residents. Under the heading "key influencing factors", the letter states: "Our ability to attract a more diverse workforce - 93.7 per cent of the population of Corby are white British, compared to 59.6 per cent in Leicester".

This is an insult not only to the people of Corby, but to the people of Britain as a whole suggesting that a 'diverse workforce' could do the job any better than one that is predominately white.

The level of unemployment in Corby is higher than than the national average and the local development corporation, Catalyst Corby, along with the East Midlands Development Association, is doing everything it can to bring jobs into the area. Much of the local community feel betrayed by the Labour Party that they helped to vote into power.

New Labour = :tosser:sorry, you're white.
