No European team has won a World cup held outside of Europe.

True. But ...

... isn't this only the second WC held somewhere outside the Americas or Europe? So - neutral territory, unless you see an African nation as a potential winner. And it's in the winter, somewhere not very humid, so the northern European nations (like Engerland) should feel more at home than usual.

I seem to recall in 2006 prior to the World Cup we were all raving about the climate suiting us in Germany.

Didnt turn out quite like that though

Which you'll lose .

We'll keep our end of the bargain in finishing 2nd to the Germans ,
just don't stuff up topping the easiest WC group that there's ever been .

Ha ha - easiest there's ever been!? With the USA in it...

In this WC alone Italy and Spain have easier groups...

I just mean it's likely to be a bit of a leveller, taking away a potential advantage that teams from warmer nations sometimes have.

Though some grounds in RSA are at altitude, and I guess this is more likely to suit South Americans ...

There is definitely potential for it to be cold and wet, particularly for the evening games. This will favour teams like England.

The problem is this:

Spain and Brazil are MILES better than everyone else.

There is a "chasing pack" behind them consisting of us, Holland, Portugal, Argentina, Italy and Germany. With a fit and firing Rooney, we are at the front of that chasing pack in my opinion. Without him, we are somewhere near the back of it.

But it still leaves the problem of Spain and Brazil being miles better than everyone else. For anyone else to win the tournament, I think one of those teams would have to go utterly SPASTIC in some way.

Or.... one player from one of the "chasing pack" to be absolutely inspirational and unplayable, and drag their team kicking and screaming to the final. The two players most likely to do this are Messi and..............Rooney. Which gives me hope.....

I agree Spain and Brazil are the favs but that's why i said we should be hoping very much that Brazil have a slow start and don't win their group. Therefore if we did win our group (and assuming Spain win theirs - which they 99.9% will) we would miss both of them till potentially the final! SUPPORT EVERYONE AGAINST BRAZIL! EVEN THAT C.UNT RONALDO!!!! That's why i love the WC - i'll be cheering on the teams against Brazil in BIG TIME!

Sweet!

PS Sam - Maybe Spain and Brazil's two best players may have to withdraw - one with a dodgey hip and one with cramp :) :) : ) :)
