Spain 8 Scotland 0.

After 5 games, Spain have a GD that is 42 better than Scotland's.

And Scotland are 2nd in the group and on course for the WC playoffs.

No joy in watching that. 20-0 is a kids score. They need to try and sort things out to make it better.

Problem is the wealthier FAs are investing heavily in the women's game. The gulf makes the Premier League look competitive.

BBC Sport consider one-sided women's WC qualifying to be more important than matches in the world's richest league - in headlines and scores on the right.

As someone who watched Newcastle vs Norwich, it sounds like a sensible decision.

Ha. I was going to say, yes, they were lower-table matches.

But the live score/results panel on the right is ordered by importance by BBC Sport - and they've put WWC ahead of PL.

Scottish Prem still holding off WSL, mind.

That's generally indicative of BBC Sport these days. Base interest levels are secondary when it comes to promoting equality.

So if Albion got relegated to the Championship, Albion Women's WSL matches would be ordered as more important than the men.

Throw in the facts that few if any women's football games now have a BBC comments section and the comments voting was changed from 'Lowest Rated' to 'Most Replied', and you've got a department that's scared of criticism and clearly wants to protect the narrative it promotes.

In one sense, it's understandable with its increased TV coverage of the women's game. But it's still quite disingenuous.

So today's game against Latvia is ordered as more important than the Premier League matches - both of which have comments sections - but not important enough to have a HYS?

Sorry BBC Sport, you can't have it both ways here.

It's perfectly possible to be grown up and run a HYS on women's games that combines differing opinions with premoderation.

The Guardian seems to do it well enough.

Having just watched all 20 goals, Locadia could learn a thing or two about how to head a ball from these girls.

Yeah. Silly.
BBC is at most self righteous when it comes to women’s football.
And giving such profile to what was always going to be a walkover doesn’t help anyone.

Not a problem, just the beginning.

Leading countries have only recently invested, but it's loose change compared to the mens' game.

Smaller countries will follow suit... watch this space.

Amongst all the piss-taking, this is it. Very, very early stages of development for many countries……and they are coming up against the likes of England where the players have improved very rapidly over recent years so the gap is enormous.

Yup.

Quite funny how some people are eager with calling the game "pointless" when being deeply offended by the quality of the Latvian women's national team makes them the ****ing Picasso of pointlessness.

There’s a lot of talk about how England’s men team qualify with relative ease, they scored 39 goals in 10 games. England W have 53 in 6. And they won one game 1-0.

Women’s football clearly needs some pre-qualifiers currently, maybe they can be removed once the game grows to a level of popularity that can support international football. However if you’re a young girl in Latvia is watching your national team lose 20-0 really going to inspire you to go out and start playing football?

They looked very happy and inspired on the stands yesterday so yes watching some of the best players showing how good football really can be most likely inspired quite a few Latvian girls.

Not sure why Englishmen are obsessed with the idea of pre-qualifiers in both the men's and women's game. My guess is that is the same kind of arrogance that resulted in Hodgson going on some ****ing sightseeing rather than scouting Iceland in 2016 and the same one that makes every English player horrified when there is a penalty shootout, "oh this is serious stuff I'm gonna shit my pants and go home". The whole "we are too good to play these minnows" is embarrasing. Yes, you are better and yes you may stomp them but you are in no position to try to dictate who are good enough to participate or not.
