Trescothick needs a rest. He's a f***ing liability at the moment, Vaughan and Struass should be opening this order.

So that will be the same Trescothick that got a century in each innings, in the last match?...

Followed by 0 and 12 in this one. I know he's batted very well in patches but he neds to stop getting out so f***ing easily. This match he played an airy fairy prod (if you can call it that) outside his off stump and then got beaten extremely easily but a slightly slower ball than found the huge gap between bat and pad.

Very harsh on Trescothick.

The point is that very team has its grafters and its strokemakers, Tresco is in the latter category and this means he can be out very cheaply (as in this test) or score very quickly and get us off to a flier as he has done many times before.

I like the mix of batting styles we have in the team at present, and I expect Vaughan to guide us to victory this afternoon. The jury's still out on Key, but we must remember Butcher scores very slowly so it's very important to offset this by having someone scoring quickly at the other end, like Trescothick.

I agree it's infuriating, especially two in the same match, but I'm confident that we've got enough about our batting to win this one.

We still have a reputation as being a side that can easily collapse. This is an opportunity to address the issue, and an opportunity for Vaughan to produce a captain's innings.

Butch should and will return at Keys expense for sure.

I heard that Butcher had hurt himself again this weekend? Ian Bell to be given a go?

What's the weather like at Old Trafford? Any prospect of rain stopping play? If so, we'd better get a move on.

I saw a bit of the chat at lunch and the groundsman was pretty confident of a dry afternoon but you never know oop north.

Moved onto 141/3 with Freddy trying to push us home.

Key 49*
Flintoff 19*

90 to win

Not quite sure but they had 80 left when they finally came out after lunch so I think we're okay.

''1628: Collins replaces Edwards at the Brian Statham End and Flintoff smashes a no-ball for four, just missing Key's head.''

Good effort, Freddy.
