Can't lose tonight.

Backing both Poland and the draw. If England don't win it's a guaranteed profit.

If England win, I don't mind the loss.

Sorted!

So what is wrong with showing a bit of solidarity for the manager and squad. The siege mentality did us no harm in 1990 and 1996. I agree that they should be proud to pull that shirt on.

However I also think that you calling everyone involved with the England set up a wanker is getting a bit tiresome. May I suggest following Scotland to you, with your current mood you will fit in a treat.

take the rose tinted specs off uncle buck! f*** doing it for the manager, hes a twat that plays players even if they have a bad game. He should have the players, competing for theirs places, consequently raising both their and englands performances

No sorry for sounding negative, but I am getting very tired with the millionaire prima donna football stars that assume they have the god given right to be picked for every game.

I bet if Beckham and Owen were on the bench (IMO Beckham should be) then they would be throwing their teddies out the cot!

I also tired of Sven always happy to pick Beckham regardless of fitness or current performance. All I want is a team willing to put in 100% be it San Marino in friendly or Brazil in a cup final, with this will bring success and the much wanted cups we as England fans want.

Greece!!! They worked as a team chasing every ball. What haapened? They win in Portual....Is this really asking too much?

I will happily get behind the team, but when the prima donna's start whinging, or clearly not trying hard enough then it's hard!!

That's my rant over for today!

Rose tinted specs, umm, I can see the faults from the other day, what I am saying is that creating a siege mentality around the criticism of the manager often does no harm to the team.

You lot seem to be calling for wholesale changes to the side, well Taylor used to constantly change things and look at the results. At times some of Sven's favourites should not be there, but I would rather has consistent selection, akin to club football, than changing it every match because some clogger like Beattie has hit a bit of a purple patch.

Wholesale changes will not help, all I want is a manager to start coming down on the players who are content in the dressing room and regardless of what they do, know they are going to be picked.

A bit more discipline and commitment is all!! We have players to win something, I just want them to prove it!!

I can't see Sven changing the way he handles players or his loyalty towards selections, and I can't see Sven getting the axe.

The only way England can step up a gear is for players like Gerrard and Alan Smith to shake the fist and back it up with top performances to galvanise the team, i.e. the job Beckham should be doing but isn't.

I'd also prefer Ashley Cole to get that left midfield slot, and for Bridge to go to full-back.

If Beckham is crap I'd take him off at half-time and put on Wright-Phillips.

I'd have started with Defoe in Austria, but I think it's right to start with Smith again tonight because this will be a more physical and intimidating match, and Smith will be up for it. I just hope he doesn't see red.

I think you are correct on swapping Bridge and Cole around, however I am not comfortable with them both in the same team. On Saturday they seemed to get in each others way, both trying to hog the left back space and neither really sure what to do in midfield. I guess the only other option is to bring Hargreaves in and play 3 central midfielders flat across the park and push Lampard in front of them. However I am not sure this is the sort of game that you want to leave the full backs exposed.

Whenever I watch Arsenal I see Ashley Cole getting into the danger zone, making runs and scoring the odd goal. This is exactly the sort of left midfielder we need in the England team.

It shouldn't be difficult to tell Bridge to stick to defence and give the job of getting forward to Cole. Surely Sven and McLaren can sort it out?

Of all the England players I think Ashley Cole is the fittest, and I think he is wasted at left-back. Push him up and let him tire out their right-back and stretch the play. This way he'd open up gaps for Owen to exploit.

I think when all the centre backs are fit (Rio, Sol, Woodgate) it has be looked at as there will be an abundance of players in that role. But can you image the dummy spitting if Beckham had to play wing back again? Also I suspect the right wing back role could be the one for Hargreaves.

Wright-Phillips, he looked good in the friendly, but this is just not the sort of game I would want to start him in. He would get kicked around the park and there is the danger that he would do a Leon and go missing.

Sven needs to remember that we have been conceding goals far too easily in recent times, so the team on the pitch must be capable of scoring a minimum of two goals over the 90 minutes.

Therefore, under no circumstances do I want to see the introduction of Jamie Carragher, Phil Neville or Owen Hargreaves.

Most decent teams have a captain who captains, we've got an out of form superstar who looked good and led by example when he cared. His recent performances (didn't see Austria) look like a man who no longer cares. He has been an embarassment both on and off the field recently and his post match interviews cringeworthy.

He is, at present, not fit to play let alone be captain.

Half the problem is he has not been able to pick his first choice centre back pairing for over a year. If everyone is fit and we qualify for 2006, the chances are it will be Campbell and Ferdinand in the centre and I suspect Woodgate as first replacement.

Hargreaves deserves to be in the squad, but the press have a habit of overlooking him as he has never played football in this country.

Tonight is the sort of game that you need a Nicky Butt style player anchoring the midfield, but there is not one in the squad at the moment. Although in 1999 they played Batty and he got himself sent off for one of the dirtiest challenges I have seen at a live game.

Not sure i agree about the 'caring' aspect IG. There's been a few other posts on this thread regarding Beckham and his recent performances, claiming that its because he is too comfortable in the team.

IMO it simply comes down to the fact that he is going through an absolutely STINKING run of form at the moment. I agree that he probably shouldnt start the game, although we all know he will.
