If Woakes can manage another 9 runs then England's No. 6, 7 and 8 batsman will all have individually outscored our No. 2, 4 and 5 batsmen in this series.

Once again, Pakistan's bowlers are showing signs of tiredness as England's long tail piles on the hurt in a final session. 17 runs carted off that previous Wahab Riaz over. Still 26 overs left, the slow over rate of earlier in the day now killing Pakistan.

Why would they be better off if they had bowled at a quicker rate?

Because they've now got one long 40-over session, one very old ball, two players seeing it like a football and a pissed up crowd whooping up every boundary. England have already piled on 82 runs in 70 mins of 16 overs

Much better to pace yourself over the course of the day. If you have a bad session it's better if it's a 30 over one, not a 40 over one.

This is all my personal opinion, but England have a habit of taking the game away from teams when presented with this situation.

Edit - Woakes out but I'd argue the damage has been done here. From 110/5 to 282/7.

They won't bowl 40 overs though will they?
one very old ball
That doesn't make sense. It's as old as the number of balls bowled, it would be older if they'd bowled at a faster rate.
two players seeing it like a football
Which would also have happened if they'd bowled at a faster rate.

It's about momentum. Pakistan had us on the ropes but they didn't convert, they didn't bowl enough balls at us when they were on top and when they had the momentum.

England have remained positive throughout the day, scoring 4 an over from the word go.
