4-5-1. Hmmm. Lets hope it works. Theres not a great deal of width in that team. Presumably the idea of Carrick as a holding midfielder is to allow Lamps and Gerrard to get forward down the middle or possibly have Gerrard operating behind Rooney. Much is going to depend on how Cole and Beckham perform.

Wrong midfielder has been dropped/moved.
Lampard does not deserve to be in the startin 11 and Beckham is getting less deserving with every passing game.

Agree Whole Heartedly, Lampard has been rubbish so far a thorough let down, and Beckham seems be less effective than ever, maybe a switch inside for Beckham and Gerrard on the right, Bring Lennon on after an hour when the full back is tired and let him do his thing.

The thing is if you move Beckham inside you take away the only reason I would consider keeping him the side - his crossing.

His passing is still the best we have, and his set pieces are reason enough to have him in the side, i still firmly believe Gary Neville is a better crosser of the ball than Beckham so we dont have to worry bout that, and although Crouch scored from a cross against T&T we seem to have Brighton Syndrome with getting players into the box anyway.

Who have Ecuador got on the left wing that warrants a change?

Lampard does not deserve a place at the moment.

If they play two defensive holding midfielders, we could play just the one in front of the back four and this could be Carragher?

Hargreaves Terry Campbell A.Cole
Carragher

I have been a great fan of Sol Campbell but am not sure that he is still the answer if Ferdinand is not fit. Benitez reckons Carragher is the best central defender in the premiership or is that another con for Sven like Wenger with Walcott.

Rooney on his own up front ??? I don't see him as a lone striker, he's at his best when dropping back a bit and supporting a more predatory striker. Personally I woulda dropped Lampard and played 4-4-2 with Walcott.

Hargreaves was superb the other night in his preferred position now watch him have a nightmare game and the English media jump on his back again.

Just pisses me off that Sven has gone to the Mcghee mood of fitting players in for the sake of it.

He knows he cant drop Hargreaves after being the best English player on the pitch on Tuesday so he sticks him at right back instead of dropping Frank "Dead Eye" Lampard, who is bring nothing to the side but giving the ball away with his shooting.

The argument of he is getting into the postions to score doesnt wash with me at all, so what if he is? its about hitting the back of the net not getting into the postion to score.

Plus he will get annoyed and turn into an angry panda if he doesnt get the ball.
