England have recalled Darren Gough as part of a provisional 30-man squad for October's ICC Champions Trophy in India.

The selectors' decision to include the 35-year-old fast bowler opens the way for him to make an international return after more than a year in the international wilderness.

Gough has not featured since the one-dayers against Australia last summer and opted out of the winter tour of Pakistan to take part in televised dancing competition.

But given England's woeful limited overs form during their most recent series against Sri Lanka, the selctors have decided to give Gough the chance to revive his career.

More soon...

England 30-man squad: James Anderson (Lancashire), Ian Bell (Warwickshire), Ian Blackwell (Somerset), Ravi Bopara (Essex), Tim Bresnan (Yorkshire), Stuart Broad (Leicestershire), Glen Chapple (Lancashire), Rikki Clarke (Surrey), Paul Collingwood (Durham), Alastair Cook (Essex), Jamie Dalrymple (Middlesex), Andrew Flintoff (Lancashire), Ashley Giles (Warwickshire), Darren Gough (Essex), Stephen Harmison (Durham), Matthew Hoggard (Yorkshire), Geraint Jones (Kent), Ed Joyce (Middlesex), Jon Lewis (Gloucestershire), Alex Loudon (Warwickshire), Mal Loye (Lancashire), Sajid Mahmood (Lancashire), Graham Onions (Durham), Kevin Pietersen (Hampshire), Liam Plunkett (Durham), Chris Read (Nottinghamshire), Vikram Solanki (Worcestershire), Andrew Strauss (Middlesex), Marcus Trescothick (Somerset), Michael Yardy (Sussex).

Narrowing that lot down to the 14 man squad I would go for... In no particular order apart from alphabetical...

01. Stuart Broad (Leics)
02. Paul Collingwood (Durham)
03. Alastair Cook (Essex)
04. Andrew Flintoff (Lancs)
05. Ashley Giles (Warks)
06. Darren Gough (Essex)
07. Stephen Harmison (Durham)
08. Matthew Hoggard (Yorks)
09. Mal Loye (Lancs)
10. Kevin Pietersen (Hants)
11. Chris Read (Notts)
12. Andrew Strauss (Middx)
13. Marcus Trescothick (Somst)
14. Michael Yardy (Sussex)

A nice mix of experienced England players with the form players of the season in Broad, Loye & Yardy

even naming 30 Dimitri Mascarenhas doesn't make the cut ???

He should definitely be in the top 30 in the country. He bowls well (especially against Sussex) and is an explosive bat to come in at 8.

Pleased for Yardy as he has been a consistent performer for a couple of seasons. No surprise they left Matty out as they don't like him as a keeper and he has been average as a batsman only.

Glad to see the selectors have swallowed their pride and selected Gough.

Yardy deserves a go, but I think he is well down the pecking order.

Be interested to see Mal Loye in an international game to see whether his brand of unique shots could cut it in the big game. Seeing him sweep Brett Lee would be a sight to behold.

With all fit my team would be:

Trescothick
Cook
Vaughan
Pieterson
Strauss
Flintoff
Collingwood
Read
Dalrymple
Gough
Harmison

I'm torn with regards to whether Freddie should play in this tournament. We need him for the Ashes but then again our last few world cup performances have been embarrassing so I want him to help build the ODI side again.

On balance for me, I would rather he didn't play in this tournament.

The idea of picking 30 players is similar to the football world cup. I presume they might have a meet up sometime but it includes some injured players as well so others know that they are in the thinking of the selectors.
