[Albion] Enciso is such a ray of sunshine.... not

Got something to say or just want fewer pesky ads? Join us... 😊

why is everyone convinced he'll just be a squad player if he stays? I guess we have a glut of "riches" With O'Riley, Weiffer, Mitoma, Minteh,Gomez, March, Facundo, Enciso, Rutter, Pedro, Adingra all having played for us a winger in the last 2 seasons. I guess we might lose Mitoma and Pedro in close season but that would still be 9 players fighting for 2 places (Assuming central midfield will primarily be Baleba, Hinch, Ayari?) !. WIth Ferguson back too (if he wants to stay) theres gonna be quite a few of them not getting regular games.
I also wonder if we have abandoned the recruit from within approach considering the amount of "experienced" players we bought last close season?

That Will help his valuation perhaps…….I don’t think being a squad member with us quite cuts it for him.
Is precisely what people are forgetting! Mr part time flair with occasional worldie doesn't do anyone real favours. I'd love him to come good in other areas of his game but no guarantee that will ever happen or in the time scale that would suit us.

Enciso having a great game. 5 attempts and 3 on target. Last week he gave away the pen for Newcastle's first.

Truly an interesting and entertaining guy. Sometimes he comes off big time and others well..... Great to have in the squad but I can't see him starting for a top half contender. Will be interesting to see who actually wants him in the summer and how much they are prepared to pay. Our only hope of him staying would seem to be if we get European football.

I've been watching him today and he looks good and hungry, prepared to work really hard. I've always thought that he tends to blow hot and cold. Funnily enough, there's another player we have at the moment that blows hot and cold, albeit at a slightly higher level. I wonder if that is why Brazil's no 9 isn't the first name on the teamsheet for the Albion every week when everyone is available ? And before anyone else points it out, both are still early in their careers.

Maybe just a little more hot than cold from Enciso and we have another

We didn't buy experienced players in the summer. The profiles were all still similar to our normal buys. The oldest was 24, and none had really played in the Prem. Something will have to give in the attacking department. If I had to guess I'd say Adingra, Enciso will move one.

If we qualify for Europe, experience has taught us you need a very large squad to cope with all competitions

I really think we, as fans, overestimate the significance of European football to players when they’re signing contracts. Most will just go to the club that’s offering the most money.

It’s a number of factors ? - the PL, our set up, the chance of a platform for young(er) players to perhaps move to an elite European club if successful here, the coach - but European competition is a factor for some players. And of course wages . But Not always ££ - Mitoma not interested in Saudi Arabia riches v Albion for example.

My thought was really more games and therefore more opportunity to start. I would like to think we could, if we wanted, offer Enciso as much as he is going to get elsewhere.

I also watched the Everton v Ipswich game today, primarily to watch JE performance. Thought he had an excellent game, yes still a little gung ho but does score, and did score, a superb goal. With the correct coaching I still believe he can go a very long way. I still hope it's with us.

On the assumption that we are going to have to make some money this summer especially if we are rebuilding our defence then I'd prefer to sell Enciso and get a bit of money for Rushworth, Moran, Sima, Osman etc and perhaps Adingra or Buonanotte if it means we can keep Mitoma, Baleba, JPvH and possibly Pedro as well. Something will have to give and we can't keep everyone and overall I'd prefer to lose Enciso and keep the core squad we have now.

It’s a great goal, but you just know he’s now going to spend the next 6 months trying to do it again and hitting row Z

It is tough. Bart, JPVH, Baleba, Georginio could all go for big money, but I'd really like to keep them for another year, at least.

We obviously have to keep players turning over so, for me, it would be João Pedro (which I think was always the plan), Adingra, and I think Barco has a loan to buy deal ?

I'd like to see Enciso and Buonanotte back, and with a fit defence (Lamptey, Veltman, JPVH, Igor, Dunk, Webster, Estupinian and Ferdi) I think we only need a couple of quick defenders, unless we replace one of those, in which case three. I would put Gruda on loan to lower prem or abroad, he reminds me of Buonanotte last season.

Ferguson really seems to be struggling to be Danny's backup, so a cheeky bid for Delap

People seem to keep forgetting he’s 21 and come off a pretty big injury. He’s one of our biggest natural talents, and we should be trying to refine him, not chuck him on the garbage heap.

I’d love to refine him off the bench but it doesn’t sound as though he’s content to be a super sub. What are we supposed to do if he’s not currently consistent enough to be a starter?

One issue there is the fitness records of (at least) Webster and Lamptey (and possibly Veltman and Dunk now) - seems as though neither are likely to be available for the majority of a season. We 100% need a couple of CBs for the squad, one of which needs to be at or close to being a first team starter

Definitely a factor, but I reckon when you’re already playing in the world’s top domestic league, travelling long-distance on a mid-week night for a few extra games doesn’t have quite the same allure as it does for us fans.

I reckon for foreign players the factors in order are:

- Cash
- Club status and history
- Geographical location (specifically proximity to London)
- All the other stuff such as European qualification
