Once hes fully recovered Tommy Elphick is set to get a new deal at the club.

Good news i think for the club as alot of people doubted whether or not he was in Poyets future plans.

I like his loyalty, but imho he won't cut it at championship level.

Hes going to be 4th/5th choice but am delighted if he stays, a very good squad player to have.

Would be surprised at that, only a bit part player this season and would expect Louis Dunk to overtake him in the pecking order.

The lad can still prove himself. If he firms up a bit and learns to learn, then i see not much stopping him. Gus would obviously thinks he is still an effective possibility.

He looked to have learnt to play our way before getting injured at Notts County. If he continues to learn he will be an asset to us and can see him replacing Adam El Abd in the long term as he is better in the air.

A bit surprised - he seems to be more hoofball and didn't really seem comfortable playing the passing game that AEA and GG seem comfortable with. Will be surprised if he is anything more than a bit part player - will he be happy with that?

I don't really agree with that. I've seen enough of him this season to suggest hes made some good improvements to the way we play. Despite that, I doubt he will be much more than a back up if AEA and GG keep up a partnership.

I'd heard two rumours (and they are just rumours) that he was either being loaned out for the season or going to Oxford.

Whenever I've seen him outside football he's come across as a really nice intelligent bloke, but I do agree with peterward in as much as he isn't good enough for the Championship.

Interesting, does he not still have a year to run on his contract? Is that not sufficient time in which to prove he is (or isn't) good enough for the Championship? I guess Gus must see some long term value in him, which surprises me.

(If this is all true of course)

Will be interesting to see if Gus puts Tunnicliffe ahead of Dunk or Elphick on the bench as backup to AEA and GG

Lets remember what ElAbd was like....and how he has matured into a quality defender.
No reason Tomster cant achieve the same!

elphick is worth another contract. he is great pro and still has youth on his side. If he can improve as El-Abd has he can be an asset to the team.

Can't see it personally what with Dunk coming through even without anyone else coming can only see him being 4th choice centre back when fit

He still has another year left, but I wouldn't be suprised if we get him signed up early avoiding the situation where he could walk away for free
