After travelling around Europe a lot it is noticeable that swearing is commonplace on both radio and television throughout the day, as well as violence on the latter. However in the UK people are up in arms if somebody lets out a small swear word before 9pm on TV. I think we should eliminate the watershed it really serves no purpose anymore.

Why aren't people allowed to swear on the radio, even at two in the morning? The only reason I could think of was because it was used for BBC World Service which was on during the day in other countries

Perhaps we could eliminate Europe.

We've no radio watershed here. You wouldn't notice to be honest. Presenters apologise for callers cursing at any time of day and most stations play exclusively radio edits of songs at any time. National broadcaster is a notable exception and there it appears to be a DJ choice. Will occasionally here "dirty" versions during the day.

I'd imagine there'd be mayhem for a while after getting rid of it while people got used to it and more immature presenters made hey - whereas we never had one so it was never an issue.

Some of the radio edits of songs are ridiculous - one station I heard played two songs in a row, one with "sex" bleeped and the one after with "wear suspenders and some PVC, and we'll film it all" left in. Which is more "dangerous" for children to hear ffs?

Waterloo Road must be the only school in the UK where the kids dont swear.

Why do you need loads of swearing on TV during the day? Especially when there's kids watching. Seems unnecessary to me. Type your PIN number into Sky movies & if your desperate for daytime television swearing & watch some 18 rated film.

Swearing here and there is okay but it's not that realistic in most situations. How many people, in their day to day job/life/whatever swear that much? Prob a lot less than people f***ing think.

This wins my award for ridiculous thread of the day. The watershed not only controls swearing, but drugs, sex and gambling too. And why should swearing be on TV that children watch, its not like it is something that will benefit them.

Personally don't see the need for swearing on tv and radio at any time.

Why do you want the watershed eliminated?

I think some swearing in films adds to it as it does on some comedy but it's not really needed on much else is it? apart from porn but they rarely broadcast that on TV during the day as far as I know. The only people on radio that would swear would be that bunch of wankspanners over on Radio 1.
