I know its been done before, but I've just received a truly outrageous electricity bill from seeboard ( nearly £300 after living like scrooge for the last 3 months ) , what are the alternatives, who is reliable and cheaper than seeboard,

I use Scottish Power. No complaints, and they actually read your meter instead of estimating it all of the time.

Yes my bills come to no more than £480 in an entire year.

I have gas central htg (combi boiler), electric oven, dishwasher and tumble dryer (used frequently in winter) and a gas hob.

I am with Powergen for both gas and electric (it pays to be with one company for both as you get a discount for that as well)

Dont pay them quarterly. Direct debit prices are actually cheaper per unit

Get the best discounts you can.

Pm me if anyone wants to give individual scenarios. As I said this was my job for Yorkshire Electricity (now taken over by Npower - dont touch them with a barge pole) before being made redundant.

If anyone has an immersion heater only use it for the hours that you need it. One of the biggest myths is that it is cheaper to leave it on 24/7 and make sure the thermostat is working properly.

I do about 6 loads of washing a week but quite a few of those are done at 40 degs, Only the duvet covers sheets and towels are washed at 60 and above. Make sure the fridge freezer is defrosted regularly (and full - a half empty freezer uses more electricity)

wish I got away with 6 loads a week I do appx 13!! and thats on a good week! and my freezer is always full!! we dont do half empty in this house!!!

You probably can't do much to reduce your usage but you may get a better deal with another company. It's worth a look.

I always like it when the utility companies try and to sell us gas. We're always keen to help by showing our enthusiasm. So much so that they get positively THRILLED by our interest. Until we get to the bit about when they plan to lay the five miles worth of pipework necessary to get the gas from Alfriston to here...

But heating on timers? Pshaw! Softies! You want a nice solid fuel system like what we have. Heaving all that coal soon warms you up!

I am a manager at The Uk's leading energy supplier and will be happy to give advice if anyone should need it!

Estimated reads- You may well get these but are more than entitled to replace with your own readings if it's wrong. All gas/elect suppliers are legally obliged (under supplier licence) to read meter at least once every two years. My company tries every quarter but not guaranteed.

If this is not done, you may get a letter saying the meter read must get in which if not answered could result in warrant entry to read meter. (this is uausally for proffessional couples who are never at home)

Prices, for best offers try that u switch thing. Although I can guarantee savings...

Direct debit is best option as from suppliers point of view its the cheapest method to process payments so give a saving back to the customer. Pre-payment (token, keys etc) most expensive!!


This day and age though, its best to shop around!
