First time using the public networks today

Is it usual to get pre auhrorisation charges applied (similar to pay at pump for regular fuel)

Used a Tesla charger and a BP connect each once but seem to have 2 auth fees for each supplier? Assuming these won’t be actually billed?

I use Octopus Electroverse, and they just add it on to my monthly energy bill, so don’t have to worry about stuff like that. I believe if you just pay by debit card they do a pre-auth for £45 but only bill you what you use.
