If you're doing the Brittania, the pubs on the Leith Shore are cracking for food/drink.

Try Tuechters Landing for beer and food. The Malt and Hops for a great range of beer.

The King's Wark does a fabulous breakfast and the Ship on the Shore is fine.

Up Leith Walk, Robbie's Bar near Balfour Street tram stop is a grand old Edinburgh bar.

Bit of an out of the way gem is Bijou. A tiny restaurant on Restalrig Road near Leith Links.

Enjoy. Embra is a wonderful city.
Thank you.

Are all of those in Leith?
Definitely intend eating in Leith after the tour.

Any recommendations for breakfast near the castle, royal mile?

Yes, all of these are on Leith Shore/Leith Walk.

I know Leith much better than the city centre these days as my visits are usually for Hibs matches.

But for breakfast, Luscious on the Canongate is pretty good and, I'm told, consistent.

My favourite pub on the Royal Mile is 'The Ensign Ewart'. Good beers and whisky and fair enough food.

Prices in Leith are generally cheaper ás, apart from the Brittania/Ocean Terminal, you're off the tourist route.

If you want a proper spit and sawdust boozer in Leith, The Carriers Quarters definitely fits the bill.

The tram system is efficient, reasonably priced and quick. A huge change from the days of slow buses. Getting across the city is a breeze.

My favourite pubs in Edinburgh (outwith Leith)

1. The Bailie - Stockbridge (really nice area, loads of good pubs and restaurants)
2. The Diggers (official name The Athletic Arms) - great beer, well looked after, close to Tony Bloom's Tynecastle
3. The Guildford Arms at the East end of Princes St - right next to the Cafe Royal (also a great pub)

I should have said that I broadly concur with all that @Sussexscots says about the pubs in Leith. The shore is great and there is a pub/restaurant there called The Shore which is top notch. Carriers Quarters is a brilliant boozer.
