For me, every decade produces a must watch drama on TV. My favourites :

1970s - Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy with Alec Guinness as George Smiley

1980s - Edge of Darkness, with Bob Peck as D.I. Ronnie Craven

1990s - Prime Suspect (the first, and, best one) with Helen Mirren

2000s - The Wire, The Killing, The Bridge, Line of Duty, Bodyguard, Unforgotten

Possibly the greatest drama series from the BBC is showing again on BBC4 at 10pm. It includes atmospheric theme music from Eric Clapton.

How bizarre ... I was clearing out some stuff last week and found a VHS cassette of the first couple of episodes. Thought I'd like to see it again but didn't have a) the other tape b) anything to play it on.

I would add Our Friends in the North to the 90’s.

State Of Play was good.

For me, Northern Exposure is my favourite tv series of all time.

I thought the Sopranos was boring and repetitive.

Binned off Breaking Bad after season 1. Boring.

Loved The Wire.

Loved NYPD Blue.

Quite liked ER for a few seasons.

Cracker was great.

Never really watched Prime Suspect.

Shout out for Fortunes of War, currently being reshown on bbc4 and catch up (be quick!)

Excellent. Especially the dear late Ronald Pickup as Prince Yaki….(“dear boy”!)
