Leeds boss Kevin Blackwell is hopeful that despite being £50m or so in debt, he will still be allowed to pay some transfer fees to bring in 'four or five' new players that he 'desperately needs'

Full story here

I have to say I share Easy 10's considerably annoyed views on this. Leeds have been run by utter incompetents for the last few years and as a result find themselves in a colossal great hole. Yet they are still allowed to spend cash, despite owing creditors an absolute fortune. Yet a club such as ourselves who haven't spent a penny on a transfer fee for three years now BECAUSE WE CAN'T AFFORD TO - JUST LIKE LEEDS CAN'T are going to get pasted by Leeds and all their signings. Some reward for living within your means and being financially prudent:angry:

It's basic economics though, isn't it?

When, for example, Robert Maxwell died he was massively in debt. He had less money than you and I.

And yet he lived a millionaire lifestyle whereas you, I'm guessing, do not.

Moral of the story? None. But at least we've got our health - or something.

You're right, I don't like it.
That clubs finances are an absolute train-wreck, and yet they are continuing to assemble a useful squad of players there, with a good blend of promising youngsters (Spring) some Premiership experience (Ricketts, Joachim, Wright, Guppy) and some seasoned campaigners who can still do a job at this level (Deane).

By rights, you'd have thought that the Leeds United team for this season would be packed to the rafters with youth team players on low wages, perhaps held together by a few old timers. But as it stands, they look a decent bet for the Playoffs at least with all the players they've managed to bring in.

The rest of us can only look on in envy. Leeds will probably do the double over us with a squad of players which they can no more afford than we can. That sucks.

Presumably they are still going for it this season, as the people they owe money to will think getting back in the Premiership gives them a chance of recouping something.

If they don't make it this time, then they're in deep, deep doo-doo.

Agreed though, it is VERY annoying.

Has any sort of legislation been put into place to stop Leeds doing what Leicester did?

Other than the 10 point deduction for going into administration, no.

This is a joke and as good as being in administration therefore points deduction.

It's like saying we a skint so we won't pay our debts but sign players

The fact is that even though they are £50million in debt, until the creditors start knocking on the door or sending the bailifs in they are able to go on buying. Creditors are hoping that they will bounce back up, and in doing so give a cash injection back in to the club that they can withdraw from. However if come Christmass they are mid-table, and not looking to good, you can expect the creditors to start asking questions and start wanting some money back. Either way if they do not go back up then they will be in deep brown stuff. Everyone they even might owe money to will be banging on the door wanting it.
