I think we should celebrate Easter more often. 4 days off is all it means to be.

From my very poor memory of bible stories, they said Jesus's body was placed in a cave, and then someone (mary m?) saw him come back to life again. So where did he go from there? Therefore if he'd got up and wandered off again - he would have died of old age! (or if you've watched Da Vinci Code, he wandered off, had a family etc)

Yes which is why I explained the Passover. It is not just a coincidence.

So, in other words a new sect of the Jewish faith came along and superimposed itself over the existing Jewish festivals (Xmas = Hanukkah).

Or to be a bit more precise a few hundred years after the birth of this cult the Romans decided to impose it as an "unifying" religion for their own political ends.

But aren't Easter Eggs symbolic of the fact that somebody had to Roll Away the Stone that covered Jesus' tomb.

Or was that Mott the Hoople?

Saw an excellent documentary on BBC3 about a year ago which makes certain claims that Jesus went back to Kashmir (where it's believed he went in his late teens and early 20s) to continue his Buddhist teachings, and died aged about 80. Assuming it's him, the location of the body is not really a closely kept secret.

However, since the known politics of Jesus' life have become so diluted, and much has been written, re-written, edited, destroyed or even plain fabricated, there is no evidence one way or the other to know what really happened to the fella.

All the other major religions have a tomb which is revered and visited by thousands. Just think of the revenue the moneymakers could coin in.
There is no tomb.
The earliest gospel was written in Greek (a living language) within a generation of his death and certainly in the disciples time. They haven't been re-written.

Jesus' tomb is NOT visited by thousands, nor is it especially revered. To the Kashmiris, he was just another teacher - a pretty good one, but a teacher nonetheless. They also knew him by another name - something which at present escapes me.

There isn't a tomb Al. Even the original one borrowed from Joseph of Arimathea isn't known because it was only borrowed for a couple of days.

Well, SOMEONE's buried there.

There may be but it's nothing to do with Christianity.

Who said it was? Christianity as we know it today came along AFTER his demise.

Jesus was born into the House of David, one of the 12 houses of Israel. His whereabouts between the ages of 18 and 29 are not fully documented. His teachings from when his life was picked up again are remarkably consistent with the teachings of Buddha.

There is no hard and fast evidence - no smoking gun, if you like - to suppose he went to Kashmir, was taught by the Buddhist monks, came back, taught his new teachings, was crucified, survived it, and legged it back to Kashmir where he lived until the age of 80, and was subsequently buried there. However, what evidence there is suggests that this version of events cannot be summarily dismissed.

It also does not suggest that Jesus was not a powerful, influential person upon contemporary society. An awful lot of documentation from the time says he was. All I am saying is that there is far too much contradiction and far too many gaps to be able to form a whole picture of his life.

I'd love you to point out the contradictions to me sometime. We can have a good discussion about it.

There are four accounts of his life which complement each other whilst not being identical.
There are also Roman accounts of his life eg historical facts which are not religious.

Romans made sure they executed people and their soldiers were executed for allowing him to 'escape' from the tomb so they wouldn't have let it happening easily. There were six soldiers guarding a dead body because the Jewish leaders knew the prophecies of resurrection.

The whole purpose of Christianity is reconciliation with God and bodily resurrection. The first part happens immediately we die. The second part - bodily resurrection will happen at the second coming.
Jesus was the first born (going back to the Passover message) and has defeated death.

Right I'm going to get ready for the game now.
See you there.

Oh dear, I can see this thread degenerating into an anti religion rant. Would all non believers please accept that some people believe in Jesus Christ and as few of them do you any harm leave them be.
