Found out last night that the elderly steward that always stood at the entrance from the concourse to East Stand E1F passed away a couple of weeks ago. Always had a smile on his face and a "hello / goodbye" for everyone.

RIP old chap

I wondered why there was a different steward at the entrance last night. Mrs Turnip used to work with him and he was a really nice fella apparently. She'll be sad to hear about this. How did you find out?

Remarked to the steward on duty that I hadn't seen the old fella at the Ipswich match, and he told me the sad news.

RIP little fella.

I asked where he was when I saw him missing for the Ipswich game and was told "away".
Always very welcoming, friendly and chatty.

I think his name was Fred - apologies if wrong!

I took a picture, of my grandson, recently and the steward was in the background. I've cropped the photo, his number was 307.

I think he might be the guy who told me my hair was very feminine earlier in the season. :lolol: I was in my seat at about 5 past 2, and he came over to tell me the concourse was open. Seemed a real character and a thoroughly nice bloke, assuming it WAS him I spoke to. Fairly sure it was, how many happy older gentlemen are stewards?!

RIP, true gentleman.

That is really sad news - use to have a quick chat with him before every game. This was part of my matchday experience.

May he rest in peace. My thoughts are with his family.

Such a lovely guy who has been working as a steward for years, I've seen him at Withdean many times and a sad loss
