From my albeit brief meeting with Richard Hebberd I came to the following conclusion.........

He is a jumped up tosspot that thinks the world of himself.

All you good folk in H and J blocks you know what you have to do!!

Just sing "Stand up if you want Falmer" but then that annoys others on the board!

In Block D we tend to stand at times, but not all the time. Being towards the front its not so easy as we do have some kids behind and they cant see when we do stand. They dont mind standing up but its unreasonable of us to block their view.

I hate Withdean with a passion, the singing section idea doesn't work if they end up just putting anybody in it, defeats the object a little bit!

We need Falmer so that people have a bigger choice of seats, a proper family section (not stuck out on the end), a stand for the old West Stand wooden tops, a replacement for the North Stand and a new chicken run for us old East terrace "north stand north stand give us a song" brigade!

Oh the days of the Goldstone and the yellow helmeted police segregating the North Stand from the away fans in the East terrace corner section. Those were the days.......mind wandering off to the good old days when we coudl be real fans.....

Due to the Falmer delay and our inevitable promotion to the "Premier league" I thought i would find out if Withdean would be allowed to host the delights of Arsenal , Man Utd, Chelsea etc. This is the reply i got, so i guess we would need a roof on the South Stand?

"Dear Mark

Thank you for your email. There is not a Premier League rule stating the number of seats a promoted Club must make available. The Premier League Handbook does state that spectators admitted to a registered ground shall be offered only seated accommodation, the majority of which shall be covered and there shall be no standing terraces.
However, for a Club to gain membership into the Football League from the Conference League they must have a minimum capacity of 4,000 (with the ability to reach 5,000), 500 of the capacity must be seating (with the ability to reach 1,000).

Kind regards

Mr Blobby

feel a bit cheated that those days will never happen again - surely there can be those "north stand" terraced, electric atmosphere again ....................surely???:nono:

in the future it will be a flask of coco and a good old sit down and observe the game whilst a minor clap if something untoward happens, like a goal!

Hmm, I'll be in J block tomorrow so it could be interesting. Seems odd though that at the Swindon playoff game the entire block (sorry, make that entire south stand) was up and singing the whole game and created a great atmosphere; I didn't hear a word from the stewards then

Do grounds in "The Campionship" have to be all seater?
If not then rather than 2000 extra seats would it not be better to build a terrace behind the goal to keep everybody happy?
Just a thought, sorry.

Yes they do- by law. (Safety of Sports ground Act)

After Hillsborough
All Premier League and Championship (aka Divsion 1) have to be all seater

Division 2 and 3 (aka League 1 and 2) grounds are expected to become all seater, but are allowed to keep terracing providing its safe.

All new grounds (And Withdean is captured by this) have to be all seater

I think they should rename The Family Block,The Funeral Block as it is dire down there as I have sat there for the last 3 years.
Was in J Block on Tuesday and what a great Atmosphere, surely if we all stood up and stayed up they cant do a lot about it can they?

I am in H block and we sit down when told until the steward goes back down the steps and then immediately someone sings Stand up if you want Falmer.

This happens at every game and the stewards accept it. We always sit down when told so we aren't doing anything wrong.

Has the letter already been sent? If so we haven't received it yet.

I think a quiet word between Richard Hebberd and Mark McGhee would sort things out. Although not having met Mr Hebberd, his email is certainly of the sort to suggest that he IS a jumped up t*ss pot! He's probably good friends with the ref from Tuesday night....

Nonsense

I am quite happy in the H-block when all are standing ans singing.

I pay $415.00(sorry pound sign not working) to sit in this s*** hole in the rain. As i stand the rain drips off my coat and falls to the floor. Thanks to the steward who makes us sit i come home soaked.

I stand when the tension rises or when my mate tells me that tea nows cost $1.20 (pound sign still not working).Hot water and milk must be produced in the middle east to justify this.......anyway just let me stand when i am excited.

We will not be persecuted at the H-block and will accuse Dick knight of blatant blockism. "is it cos isa H-Block"

"I have a dream..H-Block will rise"
"We will fight them In the H-block"
"When they standin H-Block that was their finest hour"
"

A perspective from the front row of H Block ...

People at the back who believe that "EVERYONE" in H Block stands throughout the match are wrong. From where I now sit, it looks to me like, for most of the time, it's about six or seven rows of standing, with about 16 or so rows sitting.

The singing is undoubtedly louder from the minority who stand. When passions run high, there are more people standing. But, when things are going badly (like last Tuesday), for most of the time the small number of singers can hardly be heard at the front of the Block, let alone on the pitch or in the away end.

My guess is that, as things are at the moment, there's nothing much to trouble the stewards, the Club or the outside football authorities.

Those who are advocating mass disobedience are almost certainly exaggerating their own numbers.

And a PS ... Richard Hebberd is actually quite a nice guy.

I've only stumbled acroos Richard Hebberd afew times and he certainly isn't a jumped up toss pot!

His email is to the point and im sure you'd rather that than him mithering around the point.

Pros and cons to both arguments. The long and short of it is, be considerate to others, but sing up if you can. Simple as that! I stand when I can but if theirs people behind me who cant or dont want to stand I make sure I only stand up for a short period of time maybe of a few choruses of sussex by the sea!

I really do hate that ground, I have never had to endure a worse atmosphere. The people behind me pay their money so they can turn up and moan, whinge and abuse the team, never stand or sing (their choice, of course), and moan when others stand or sing. I have been warned and threatened with ejection for shouting a naughty word a an opposition player for being a tart. I bloody hate Withdean, and I can only hope Falmer is different.

However, I cannot see this happening unless someone in a position of power seriously examines safe standing. We all know it can be done, yet there is a head in the sand mentality from those with the authority to change things, meaning we'll forever be stuck with the kind of crap atmosphere at Withdean. And don't start me on the catering:angry:

I'm sorry, but to me his e-mail just seems rude and somewhat arrogant

Does the same exact rule of stewarding apply to the away corner?

In all departments, the real sign of authority is only found when leniency and measured mercy is applied.

People in uniforms don't often realise that, and the tendency is for over-the-top or strict reading of rules and regulation stormtrooping - which suggests an inherent weakness in the uniformed translation of said rules.

Rules have to be made and enforced, to suit all of society - if a society is to harmoniously exist. Interpretation of rules is also of great importance to that criteria, and some rules should have room for people to enjoy themselves, in an entertainment arena especially.

It's called 'grace', in my book.
