Dwayne De Rosario DC United player scored some brilliant goals in these high lights. Worth watching if you can spare the time!

12 goals and 12 assists this season too. Given some of the defending is Newhaven town level.

Could do a job?

Conference players like David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Omar Bravo, Robbie Keane and Freddie Montero? :dunce:

Agreed, it's unfair to simply disregard the MLS as a league full of dross but it does manage to attract some very able players albeit players towards the end of their career.

Every year the standard gets better, attendances get higher and the profile of the game in the US improves.

Look at the stadiums, these teams have some money, so of course with that plus the life style I'm sure it's very easy to attract these sort of players in the twilight years of their careers, but how often do we see young players coming out the states? It's just older players moving there for a pension plan, because the standard is so low they can keep playing there years after they might have retired in the UK.

been watching a fair bit of the mls this year and have enjoyed it, the standard is much better than people would assume and it's RIDICULOUSLY competitive

there's a hell of a lot of decent young players over there, plus they have the added quality of people like bravo, henry, frings, beckham etc.

i can see more and more top players going over there in the next few years, and earlier in their careers so it's only going to improve

also, the average attendance for the league is around the 15,000 mark and is rising each year, and a lot of the new teams such as seattle, portland, vancouver and philadelphia have well good atmospheres and most of the teams have stadiums built for soccer

This.

Average attendance is a touch under 18,000 this year for an 18 team league, and Montreal will easily average 20,000 when they join next season. Seattle have sold 57,000 tickets for their last home game of the season, to mark Kasey Keller's last game. In ten years time, the big 4 American sports could very well be the big 5.

I think I linked that on here just after he scored it. Can't see YT from work but I presume that's the one he picked up from the corner of the 18 yard box against Seattle and smashed it over Keller's head?

Agreed, although nothing quite as cringeworthy as calling it "the" MLS though.

I'd say RSL was probably the worst name. "Chivas USA" is piss poor also.

Vancouver Whitecaps is the one that gets me. It doesn't sound right to me. But hey its the american version of it I'm sure Bolton Wanderer's sounds odd to them!

seattle are very well supported, the new stadium there was built with american football and soccer in mind....the sounders basically use the bottom tier which they fill every game (probably about 20,000?) and their fans are mental

another thing is that after montreal enter next year, there's 7 cities going APESHIT trying to get the 20th spot, the mls are talking about gradually expanding to around 24 teams

Atlanta
Detroit
Las Vegas
Miami (had a team at the start but folded)
Minnesota
New York (a second franchise)
Orlando

have all expressed interest, MLS can basically pick and choose the cities that have proved to them that there's a large enough fan base in the area to sustain a team, so the attendances look set to keep on rising

It is a bit odd, but you can't argue with tradition and there has been a Vancouver Whitecaps around for over 30 years now. Superb support too - you wait until Vancouver get a decent team in. When they won the old NASL "soccerbowl" in the 70s, over 100,000 people lined the streets to celebrate. They like their football in the Pacific North West, it's a proper sport up there.

Yeah I'd read it was an old name and don't Chivas get like 35,000 crowds often too?
