Can anybody assist with the following query re DVD player set up?

We currently are living in the dark ages in deep dark East Grinstead and only have a TV and Video but Ive finally managed to persuade Mrs Drawers that we need a DVD player. The problem is that the TV doesnt have a scart connection and is linked to the video via the old fashioned co-axial cable scheme. Without buying a new TV Video and DVD player (something Im keen to do but.........) how do I connect a DVD player up to this current set up?

yours luddlitely

If the DVD has got a co-axial (RF) output - you should be able to buy a cheap RF splitter from anywhere.

Connect the cable that goes to the television (from the video) into one of the splitters inputs, and connect a co-axial cable from the DVD (if its got a co-axial out) into the other splitters input.

Now plug the spiller output into the back of the TV.

Tune a spare channel on your TV into the DVD (you won't need to play a film as most DVD players have there own in-built welcome screen)

In the event that the video output is the frequency as the DVD output, you may need to change the frequency of either the Video or the DVD. Or much easier, just turn the DVD player off when you're not using it.

Depending on the DVD player you may need to configure it to output from its RF (although it will probably just work)

You won't really get the benefit of DVD unless you get a nice new telly with a Scart Connection.

Just been talking to someone...

I think you'll have problem finding a DVD player with an RF output

:( :(

You'll probably need to get an Scart To RF Convertor

Or, do this:

Connect the SCART from the DVD player into the one on the VCR.

To view a DVD:

1. Tune TV to view the video
2. Set the Video to accept the scart input 'AV1, AV2 etc'

Beat me to it ( if the Video has scart input )

Falmer, soon...
It's not that confusing.

Originally connections were via RF in/out

then they were composites (1 x Video 1x Audio)
then it was stereo composite (1 x video 2 x Audio <L&R>)
then it was scart
then it was svideo

If you TV is too old to have either Scart of RCA connectors, you won't be getting the best out of the DVD - better sound and video. Would strongly recommend you buying a new TV...
