Today everything is somewhat, err...... dusty.

It is called a Haboob, apparently.

How long did it last?

Seemed to be quite a while, maybe up to an hour. It's the biggest one I've seen in nearly 9 years out here. No-one can remember a bigger one.

Nope, nothing to do with Amex (although I do know someone whose company got bought out by Amex last year. If I can't get a general sale ticket for Doncaster, that could be a useful contact......)

Wow, that's amazing/pretty scary. I know you said that one like this hasn't been seen for ages, but do you get dust storms of a lesser magnitude frequently in Arizona?

There's been a handful that I recall since being over here. They happen during the monsoon, which is July/August time. Normal cloudbursts are more frequent during that time, which can be pretty spectacular in their own right, with localised flooding. We have washes out here which are designed to carry storm water away in the absence of storm sewers. We even have a "stupid motorist law" which holds people accountable for the cost of their own rescue if they get stuck trying to drive through a flooded road or wash.
